The Saudi state cannot tolerate dissent - they’ve made that perfectly clear.

They wouldn’t pour money into a project that became a focal point for criticism of them.

A sports washing project is hardly going to work if there’s mass protests drawing attention to the country’s failings. It’s not solely about the bottom line the way it is with eg the Glazers. If image is important then that is something fans can affect and they actually have quite a bit of leverage.

If the fans came out against the Saudis the way they protested against Pardew for giving them the best spell of the last 15 years, then the sportswashing project would fail and the Saudis would be out of there pretty sharpish.

Look at how Bayern fans protest against Qatar being involved with their club, and then look at the mags with the Saudis - two different breeds.

And Bavaria has always been the most conservative area in Germany (though not as right wing as some parts of the former East Germany, like Saxony). But they protested against Qatari involvement all the same.

Just for sake of argument..how would women activists, gay pride Amnesty etc..be received at SJP on the first day of the Saudi regime's takeover?...favourable?..I think not!!
If this was in Saudi Arabia I'd agree. They would not be met favourably. We are not in Saudi Arabia though. It's Newcastle FFS

Absolutely. Take Spurs in the summer as an example. Gattuso set to be named manager but some questionable quotes from him became apparent and they backtracked.

As you state, the sports washing is all about PR. If enough pissed off Newcastle fans came out against it they’d back off sharpish.

There’s absolutely no chance because we know deep down they just want to be rich and couldn’t give a fuck so long as MA goes. I’d probably have more respect for them if they just admitted it.

Now that we have several premier League clubs where money is no object it will be interesting to see how it all plays out, players may even go for more money to the club's with the most money. I suspect they will all find ways around any spending caps. Newcastle probably have a shot at winning the league in the next 10 years once they buy a decent team.

We were also right about the big 6 influence before they pulled the ESL stunt. It just isn't allowed on here to consider positive fan intervention.
Aye, must admit as soon as the ESL thing came about it was obvious (and I think I posted as much on here) that the mags were right. The "big" clubs will have been trying to have this takeover stopped. Which I wouldn't mind if it was for the human rights issues etc but it wasn't. If it wasn't the mags, and the regime doing the buying weren't so abhorrent, I'd be wanting another team to really shake the big 6 up tbh. The other thing is, if the takeover goes through, they spend a lot, and still don't break the top 4 then, whilst it would be hilarious, it doesn't really give anyone else any hope. Naturally still hope it turns to shit for you mind!

Let’s not dodge the question @mag in peace youve responded to others since I posted the question which leads me to think you are avoiding it, Do you object to the takeover based on what’s being said on this thread? Yes or no will be sufficient.
Literally said it 100x that I object to both the Saudi sportwashing and the world cup in Qatar. I've mentioned it time and time again for the better part of 2 years. I ignored it because I can't be arsed constantly repeating myself.

Anyone found guilty of breaking any law should pay the punishment for doing so. I can't control that, our government can. If MBS was prosecuted and served time in jail it would be deserved.

That doesn't change the fact that I will always love my club.

How many clubs show all of the above every single match? It's absurd to suggest we will. We will continue to support those causes as we always have.

How many clubs are owned by a state regime that routinely beheads homosexuals or executes opponents though? It’d be slightly odd to protest those things vehemently at our owner given he’s a 24 year old trust fund boy.

The point is you’ve protested your clubs ownership previously and included his business practices as a reason for doing so. You aren’t a daft poster, you surely can see that it is hugely hypocritical to protest those things but welcome the new owners who use even more abhorrent methods? All it does it make it evident that Ashley’s morality and business practices were never really an issue and it was just his spending that was the issue.

You still haven't answered the question
