So MBS orders the murder and dismembering of a critical journalist but somehow still passes the FA's 'fit and proper person's' test.

It makes you wonder what you must have to have done to fail that test.

It seems streaming a couple of seasons of PL games, was enough for it not to pass.

I'm in a kind of weird situation here, I'm employed by Aramco but would prefer the Saudi state not to own my club, even though they technically pay my bills.

It'll probably not happen anyway, but if it does won't be celebrating like the majority if it does. I'll be happy Ashley is gone yes before it's asked but I'd rather my club not be owned by a state (even though I kind of am technically)

And now creates her a bit of a problem. Is she going to raise the issue of the Saudi regime owning her local club? Welcoming a misogynistic, homophobic and intolerant regime as viable partners as opposed to rejecting someone who uses zero hours contracts as immoral isn’t a particularly comfortable place for a leftist to sit.

Absolutely not. Does anybody remember when the Mags were very keen to delve into the working practices of Sports Direct? Bringing up zero hours contracts and the high turnover of staff, working procedures etc etc

Be very interesting to see if our Geordie pals are so interested in the backgrounds of their new owners. Something tells me they won't be too bothered...

The hypocrisy is what gets me. I suppose it won't bother them if they have a chance of being successful.

The local media journalists who report for the national papers are showing their true colours tonight. They basically couldn't give a flying fuck that the mags are about to be owned by a murderous barbaric horrific torturous regime.

Absolutely shameful, not 1 of them will stand up and be counted and tell it how it is. They are a f***ing arse licking want to be loved disgrace.
Will be the same ones who didn't give a fuck we fell through the leagues and were on the brink of collapse a few years ago.

We have been told time after time for years on here that the fans don't matter and nobody cares about our protests anyway - so which is it?

Largely irrelevant question. They lost their shit over lack of playing squad investment, advertising hoardings, and (apparently) working conditions at sports direct.

Want a bet that there’s no similar large scale outrage over Saudi Arabia’s human rights record (unless instant success doesn’t materialise)?

It wasn't widely known at the time the abhorrent arsehole that Ashley was. Since it was highlighted, he's been held to account for this practice and I believe even investigated by panorama ?

Everyone knows what's going on in Saudi. Everyone. You can't highlight something everyone is aware of. It's awful, the human rights breaches are awful but what do you suddenly expect football fans to do?

Same. I’ve some good and sensible Mag mates who’s moral compasses are usually well pointed. But they’re all over the place with this. Some really wonderful moral circumnavigation going on.

Do you think it's not already being spoken about? Do you think the papers will just ignore it ?

Keep going mate and you’ll be able to lick your own arse soon.

I haven’t seen a single mass protest by any of your fans put it that way.

In fact I’d say I’ve heard no Newcastle fans at all opposed to it.

Funny that isn’t it.

Does someone else use your account? It’s like another poster posts on the politics forum

You've said your piece mate, you're ok with it unless your club starts to be ran poorly, not much to say after that statement.

That's absolutely bollocks I'm afraid. Search mag in peace and the key word Saudi to see what I've said over the years since the takeover was first mooted.

Plenty of our fans object to it. There just isn't much we can do when our own f***ing government can't influence change.

The mags bleat on about ‘getting them’ and ‘getting their city’ this takeover means they lose that instantly Man City are the same. They become a toy, a ‘customer’ more than ever now, fans watching them with no affinity ‘glory hunting’ tourists etc.
If that’s what they want good luck to them. They’ll be one of five that sky wank over weekly about who has the biggest cock and who’s buying who for 400k a week
I work with a guy who started supporting Man City 5 years ago (Boro fan also) as quote ‘I liked players they have’ imagine having fans like that im not sure genuine mags will enjoy this as much as they think as inevitably they will become irrelevant to their owners merely people who fund them
The hall/Keegan era represented them well and you can get the hysteria around them and what they created.
Saudis buying into the ‘Geordie nation’ can’t see it being the same somehow.
Reality for them short to medium term, signings like Ross Barkley 45 million 100k a week and repeat.
Do the mags really believe Saudi state as that’s who it is, will have the same passion ‘get it’ and will to win as Hall/Keegan, time will tell

In a sane world you should start a boycott group - but you won't.

Just as the rest of football will hold their collective noses about Qatar - but we won't.

It's depressing.

I am not remotely bothered about their takeover if I’m being honest. I can only hope they plunge the club in to oblivion after this much heralded new regime. Perhaps they’ll sacrifice Steve Bruce in the centre circle to really show their commitment to the Geordie cause.
