*~*~* Fleetwood v Sunderland match thread *~*~*

Kick up the arse time!
We can’t go on hoying leads away like this. Let’s learn from this.
Safe journey home lads and lasses.

We've been doing it for yonks. Yet rarely seem to score late winners ourselves. We regularly seem to end games on the back foot, possibly because we aren't fit enough or are negatively trying to see out games.

He's f***ing hopeless. Most of the time he looks like he's never seen a ball before, I'm not Flanagan's biggest cheerleader but even he is streets ahead of Bailey Shite

I don’t disagree that Flanagan is better. I’m just pointing out that it’s not a foul and it’s actually very good defending.

Shouldn’t be throwing two goal leads away in the last ten. We’ve had a couple of hairy finishes where we’ve squeezed over the line so it’s not much of a surprise we’ve come a cropper today.

If we’re to have an enjoyable and comfortable promotion campaign we arguably need to be more ruthless up top and undoubtedly more resilient at the back. I think we are quite suspect there. Cirkin, Doyle and Winchester are all comfortable with the ball but I don’t think they’re particularly good defenders. We’ve missed Flanagan today; he’s the best defender in the squad.

Looked twice and I can not see what their penaly was for - ref was in a bad position as well. Does not look as if it was handball and if it was Wright you would be giving penalties every week

Was nothing to do with going 5 at the back. We didn't capitalise 1st half when they were utter shit and gifting us space and they couldn't retain the ball.

Naturally they were going to come out with a bit of fight second half and we didn't really match it.

If I'm going to question the manager it isn't for the Alves sub late on when we were already getting bombarded, it was for taking Embleton out of midfield for a striker, which left even more space for Fleetwood to exploit when the midfield hadn't really got to grips with the game in the 2nd half anyway.
People think that bringing on the third centre back helps us to weather the storm every match when the other team suddenly has us on the ropes because they've "come out with fight". Seem a bit of a coincidence that this happens every week?

We create the situation by lowering the tempo and dropping deep half way through the second half and then we make it even worse by sticking on another defender. Sometimes we get away with it following a lot of head tennis and blocks on the line. Today we didn't (despite another huge block on the line).

Exceptionally frustrating that. If we want to finish top 2 we really need to be finishing games off like this with ease. We looked worryingly vulnerable defensively in the last 15 minutes.

Still, good start to the season and home next weekend..
