England v India (2nd test) Lords

Has there ever been an England side so reliant upon one batsman? We’ve one batsman averaging above 35 in test cricket.

In fact, has there ever been a top level test side so reliant upon one batsman?

currently root has a record of biggest gap between leading team run scorer and the next best (burns) in a calendar year (was 855 runs when he was on 4)
I think Root has something like 1700 runs in 2021. Burns is the second highest with 300
Robson gets dropped by England. Averages less than 30 in county cricket for the 4 years after. Exactly the same with Lyth. If any of these players get selected expect exactly the same as what you are currently seeing.

I know suddenly Vince and Malan look much stronger than what we have and most is had written them off.

Honestly mate I don’t know if you have ever watched test cricket before. 5th day, quality bowling attack, 5 test series. If you lose trying everything you can to save the game that’s one thing but if you lose trying to go for it changing batting orders etc when you have 1pc chance of winning that’s quite another. Yes put away the bad ball which helps as it can lead to more defensive fields etc.

I asked if people would rather their team go after a tricky run chase and risk the loss than go out and be defensive and draw. Not about this run chase

Obviously some run chases are just out of the chasing teams grasp so you can't just go after every target but I feel teams can be too cautious.

Is woakes fit to play the 3rd test, will wood be fit, will Anderson be fit - could be 5 or 6 changes next test
At least 1 opener, Curran have to go

Tbf to Vince he impressed in that last 1 day series and actually looked okay in his last few test innings.
Malan just seems an obvious middle order bet if the Ashes goes ahead this year
I don't think it matters who we replace, the replacements aren't going to be any better.
Woakes is miles better than Curran tbf
