Bairstow looked quality this series

sometimes you have to just judge with your eyes, and he looks far more likely to score consistent runs that Lawrence and Pope right now

played very well straight. Loads of quick singles too

might not get a 100 but he deserves a long run for me now.

Root is a joy to watch. What a player and what a bloke.

Don’t want to Jinx anything but it looks pretty flat and other than a 10 over spell with the new ball it doesn’t look to difficult to bat. Let’s get a 1st innings lead

Root get outs now and we are a long way short, just get reasonably close and it’s game on.

last 2 innings we have battled hard. 300 plus in the 2nd innings at last test was Ok too
New ball 7 overs, bound to get one

Fantastic batting session.

First few overs after lunch always tough. Get through them and I’ll be comfortable.
 
Bairstow 100 here would solve so many problems in the test team. It’s not al about one big score. We need consistent ones but it would just settle him in

new ball coming in 7 overs worries me

if he could score consistent runs there then you could really gamble more at 3 with a more attacking player like Pope or someone, as you know you have solidity in middle order etc

We are just too reliant on Root. If he gets out soon I wouldn’t even back the rest of them to get us to parity never mind build an actual lead. Bairstow being comfortably our second best batsman says it all unfortunately about what a mess we are in - reality is he shouldn’t be good enough to get a game but he’s significantly better than the other options we have
