Broad finished?

I’m going for it now, I think we’re near to the end.

Not so much because of his ability falling off a cliff, but because I don’t think he’s got the appetite for rotation and getting slapped about in Australia this winter. He’s talked about being near retirement before in a way that Anderson never has, and this feels like a tougher time for him again.

I think he’s gone wicketless in five of his last seven innings or something and when you throw in his dodgy batting he must be close to getting rotated, along with Curran.

Although I’ll be delighted if this thread also gets bumped for years 😉

Nice tempting of fate mate ;)

He wasn't great yesterday but I do think he has been unlucky in his last few tests and he is generally a streaky bowler. Looks unplayable when he's in his good spells.

Yeah it looks on the cards doesn’t it. However his bowling seems the same as it’s ever been to me, his speeds were right up there yesterday so I don’t think he’s lost his ability. Whether his desire is the same is the question I guess. He’s always been a fairly streaky bowler though who goes through spells so maybe this is just a trough and a peak is round the corner. Hope so anyway.

Aye this.

Yeah I agree.

As I say though I think we’re nearing the point where he says ‘sod this’ and tries to broaden his punditry. Especially when he’s got the toughest tour of the lot looming.

Maybe I’m underestimating his desire though.

69 wickets @ 20 in the world test championship. I think he should be rotated with Jimmy but at the moment you can’t leave Jimmy out, we shouldn’t be quick to write off an England great though

The same thoughts crossed my mind a few times before you posted, although I watched him yesterday and thought he was bowling more or less the same as he did against the Australians two summers ago when he was excellent and had so much success against Warner.

With Broad I think a lot of it comes down to his mentality. That summer in the Ashes he was the leader of our attack when Jimmy went down. It seems to bring the best out of him. He did similar in Sri Lanka the tour before last iirc when he was fantastic. Likewise when he got left out last summer and kicked off about it, he came back and was excellent. He’s the type that seems to come out fighting when his back’s against the wall or has a point to prove imo.

There’s no doubt his output is down on what it was, since the winter tours, and with the strength of our seam options coming through maybe he is considering his options, given his commentary and other commitments outside the game. I’m not sure though, could equally see him wanting to carry on as long as Jimmy does, especially if he gets back in the wickets.

No he isn’t. He said himself he felt rusty as he hadn’t played in so long

why do people never learn?

69 wickets at 20 in the WTC? How on earth is he finished?

got player if the summer last year?

Not yet but feel he's 3 bad tests in a row away from international retirement.
2 wicketless tests with a 5-61 in between for his last 3.

Have you read my full post? It’s not so much that his powers are falling off a cliff, it’s that I sense he’ll call it a day we’ll before Jimmy as he’s already admitted that he’s been close before.

Not what I've heard from him speaking the last 12 months

did you see his interview after getting left out last year?
