~~Tokyo Olympics 2020/21~~

ideally scheduled to bridge the gap between the Euros and the season starting

What are you looking forward to seeing ? Swimming for me, Peaty almost nailed on if there's such a thing, really hope Duncan Scott nails one because he's such a brilliant all round swimmer, Molly Renshaw or Kathleen Dawson could sneak one for the ladies but the relays look really interesting for us with some real quality young'uns backing up the established stars

Of course the 2 Washy lads that train at Birtley in the boxing have a real chance too. Be chuffed to bits for their coach who is a MLF and has even posted on here before, fingers crossed lad

Looking forward to it @consettsafc ;)

Can't believe how long ago I made a complete arse of myself on here. Those years have scarily flown over.

2012 it was the London Olympics. Just thinking about what has happened in that time. Both my parents are no longer with us. Travelled the world, lived overseas, retired and started working again, now a grandfather, ran a small business with the wife. Seems like it all happened over the last 2 years.

The world of 2012 feels like a very different place to what it is now. Most thing seemed to make sense back then.

Since then I've changed job twice, lost a parent and two other relatives. We've had 3 elections, a stupid referendum and a global pandemic. Sunderland were a mid-table Premier League side.

I was in the Olympic Park on the afternoon of Super Saturday then went to a pub to watch the 3 gold medals being won. One of my best days out in London ever.

I am looking forward to nowt pet. Because of the games they have increased the regulations to get back into Japan. I now have to do 6 days in a tiny, shitty room before I can isolate in my flat. All this for Sports Day in empty stadia. Should have just cancelled it like they did with The Open. Hold the games when it can be done properly. Infection rates are going up rapidly in Japan as well. Closed the offices again today in Yokohama the numbers there are minuscule compared with Tokyo as well.

Personally I love the Olympics, London 2012 and the Paralympics was part of the best sporting summer in my lifetime.

This time round it feels a bit subdued, understandably so. I'm not even fully aware of how most of our athletes are expected to do this time out. I get the feeling we're expected to do worse than Rio?

you on standby in case any of the team go down with it ? I recall your 400m being a thing of joy

Love the Olympics. This one is going to be wierd though.
Assume the timings are going to be a bit shit for us too?

Who are the lads from Washy that I need to look out for?

Almost certainly worse than Rio as the high performers of 12 and 16 have mostly retired. I suspect that this will be Olympics to build experience ahead of Paris 2024 - which I'm really looking forward to attending.

That’s almost an entire replica of what I was going to post.

Sunderland's Kieran McDonald fighting narl.
Didn't know that, cheers.

Great documentary on BBC about UK Sports transition between the abject failure of 96 and how lottery money transformed results. Showed how hard they all worked but didn't explore the casualties of the win at all costs policy adapted by many sports / coaches and the subsequent reaper cushions.
