Sunderland railway station

One comment on the Sunderland Echo Facebook page slagged it off saying they should build a new Crowtree Leisure Centre instead and another woman came up with the gem "Is this going to be in the city centre?"

Beyond belief some of the comments in reply to most echo or council social media posts

Looks great

For a city of Sunderland's size, the station is absolutely shite as it stands

Redevelopment is well overdue as Sunderland must have the most embarrassing railway station of any city in the country.

However given the costs of other station rebuilds, £26m doesn't sound much

Like what?
Bit of a stupid question tbh, but there's a serious lack of independent and specialist shops, online shopping, too many people on benefits and low wages coupled with the fact that anyone with money buggers off to Newcastle or the Metro Centre has all taken it's toll. Sunderland needs a game changing attraction & infrastructure to draw people back in.

So what do you want to see in Sunderland that isnt currently their? What independent / specialists?

Suppose the good things about the project is they’re reopening old platforms And eventually changing the northern entrance which is close to the vaux site.
Hopefully the rail link southerly will be preserved for trains only and upgraded.
