Sunderland railway station

I may be I'm the minority but I think it doesnt look good, and a weird hybrid of what we have now and what crowtree was.
Me too and you are not - said more or less the same on the skyscrapercity forum. Very disappointing, that roof reminds me of crowtree, a school hall or a car dealership. At least it won't smell of old fat from burger King any more.

One of the biggest issue with Sunderland is the people of Sunderland not spending their money in their own city.

Spend your money in Sunderland first instead of investing in cities elsewhere

this is it, the local MP for consett keeps rabbiting on about getting a metro line to consett. The problem with people getting to consett is that you can’t get a train it is that when you get there, there is nothing to do. People don’t think “god if I could get to Consett by metro I would go more often”
I am sure a lot of my mates who work in offices in Newcastle, those offices don’t need to be in Newcastle but as they are they get their haircuts, dinner, after work drinks, bit of shopping all in Newcastle, if somehow you spread out where people worked you may improve other places. Trickle down economics only works on a very local basis

Which cities elsewhere? Not Newcastle or Durham, that’s for sure. The problem is retail parks & online.

It is spread out now. Sunderland council (& others) have pushed developing out of town business parks. Doxford, Rainton Bridge etc rather than city centre development. Car is king etc. Everything revolves around the car. Build a new estate in middle of no where. Drive to business park to work. Drive to retail park to shop. Or get delivery drivers to drive fo you.

Preferred these designs tbh: Sunderland Rail Station - Sadler Brown

I'm not overly keen on the roof, it reminds me a lot of Crowtree leisure centre. That said, I'll take this over another decade of the existing dump. Hopefully the new northern entrance will be a bit more of a statement structure if that is to be the main entrance.
Much nicer aye but probably twice the cost or more.
The whole design isn't futureproofed and will look tatty as hell in five years.... Not to mention having open girders in a station is asking for pigeons pooping on everyone.
Good point that mind.

but that’s the thing, a successful Sunderland doesn’t trickle or makes its way much further than the a19. It is great for Sunderland
