Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

The new UK scenery update is out. It's a 23Gb download and then you have to go into the marketplace to download the actual UK scenery, another 4Gb.

Tees Transporter Bridge, St James' Park, Durham Cathedral and Angel of the North all feature. No SOL though. :-(
Just downloaded it! here's me flying next to the angel taken from my ancient pc

I installed the Steam update today. Tried loading the game but just stalls with a black screen. Happening to anyone else? Pretty sure the last update did this too and they had to release a hot fix. Dicks.

Mine updated without any issues. Could it be that the Microsoft servers are busy at the moment?

Everything set to ultra? How’s it run?

I’m gonna give it another go. 10940x 128GB RAM and a 3090 so it should fly (fnar fnar!)

Need to try VR at some point too.

that’s an odd choice? Wouldn’t a Ryzen 5950x rum rings around it?

probably, but couldn’t be arsed to wait so went with a pre built (lazy!) then swapped out the 2080ti a few months later.

Doesn't Seem to break a sweat with anything, but the Ryzen would no doubt be better

I was fairly annoyed that there was no SOL (it's the ninth biggest stadium in England for god's sake) and Northern Spire.

I deleted the add on scenery for London (horrendous frame rate killer anyway) and Gatwick and seems to be working now. Leaving it to update overnight.

What I do before I update is rename the Community folder (with all the add ons in) to 'CommunityOLD', and then add them in one by one into the newly generated Community folder to check whether the addons cause issues (especially aircraft mods).

Real life, not MSFS. One of the best landing videos I've ever seen. Watch the first plane come in and see how long it takes you to work out where the runway is.

I'm hammering the C152 atm as I have real life lessons next month

Landing at Outer Skerries (EG78) is a lot of fun

The sim just gets better and better
Argos has finally got the Hotas One joystick in stock Microsoft recommended for FS2020.

That's the one I have - did you get it?

What with? Trying to convince my gf it's a worthwhile use of our disposable income? 😂

I've booked a discovery flight and a 1 hour lesson to start with to see how it goes.
That's how I got started and loved it. Got to within a couple of hours of my first solo flight but I had to pull the pin. I could only do the lesson on a Saturday and I needed to work a Saturday to pay for the lesson. Ended up only doing a lesson once a fortnight and it wasn't enough for me to progress the way I should have been. The theory bored me to shit as well. Hour of theory before every lesson.

I'm doing the theory online as and when I can because we're so busy at work but I probably need the structure of classroom learning

I plan to retire when I'm 55 - nine years time - and it's something I hope to continue when I finally stop grafting

I'm hoping MSFS will sort out the VOR DMEs in the North of England soon because I want the experience to be as close to real life as possible - loads of them don't work

I'm presuming you're in Oz where you can fly VFR almost all year round?
