Remembering Tim Carter

I remember he gave me 2 complimentary tickets for our pre season friendly at Hearts in the early 2000's. Very sad to learn of the demons that drove him to his death. RIP Tim.

Knew him personally and was and still am amazed at how things turned out in the end for him.
lovely bloke. Old school type.
can’t believe it’s that long ago and also how young he was.
I was a young lad when I knew him and I’m now getting towards the age he was when unfortunately passed.
Makes u realise how lucky you are sometimes and to treasure the good things in life because it can soon swing the wrong way.

rip Tim Carter.

His daughter and my daughter were friends from nursery school onwards - used to have sleep overs at each others houses.

It was clear that Tim was very down, and I used to try and get him to come out for a beer with me and few of the other dads, but he never would

I wish I had done more to try and talk to him

Really sad

It’s sad as I don’t have an memories of him as a player. I knew he was at the club and I knew he was a goalkeeper but that’s as far as it went.
He was obviously struggling though and the travesty is that he saw suicide as the only way out.
RIP Tim.

Desperately sad to lose him. Also the posts from those that knew him really hit home. Seems like he was a lovely bloke.

Quite a few ex goalies died young or were seriously ill. Fulop, Hesford and Carter. Tony Norman is still alive but was seriously ill. He was, and still is, my all-time favourite Sunderland player.

Cameron Duncan as well mate sadly died aged 51 4 years ago. Only played 3 games in mid 80s but can remember him saving a penalty down Grimsby.

Played in a friendly game against Tim about 5 years before he died. He was playing in defence and marking me most of the time.
He seemed massive and kicked lumps out of me but was a lovely gentle giant.
Very sad what happened 😥

RIP Tim. Remember his amazing goal kicks constantly going out of play especially away at Brighton
True but he could still kick it further than Iain Hesford
Game at the shit tip 0-1 defeat .Scott Sellars free kick and Tim Carter goal kicks constantly gan out of play.
Didn’t realise Carter was in nets that day. And I was there, in what could only be described as a cage in the Leazers end.

Yeah mate was sad news think he had cancer. As a budding keeper yourself he probably caught your eye as a youngster.

Cancer is a ****, I have danced with it once, I know it is coming back, I would like to kick the fuck out of it. I am meeting up with a friend shortly who is on the way out. RIP Tim, wish I had been there to help

Can’t believe he was only 40 when he died, really sad.

my memories of him as a player are one of Liam O’Brien’s goals vs us I think the free kick rather than the chip.

I was mad with him because he set himself up on one side of the goal then as the kick was taken he stepped the other way and the ball flew into the net.

but it’s terrible to hear about what he’s gone through. GRHS
