Were Madness the best singles band ever?

Difford and Tilbrook are just great songwriters full stop…..Squeezes albums were all crammed with potential singles….”Argybargy” is their best imo and although the album opens with the two singles ie “Pulling muscles…” and “ Another Nail…..” the quality never falls…..”Vicky Verky” is brilliant
Seen them 4 times and they have never sang VV. One of these days, hopefully.

yeah ….not surprising really though…..they have so many great songs its a question of which ones do they leave out of a setlist…..maybe one day they will tour the full Argybargy album …like other artists often do with great albums

How can you be known as a singles band if you're well known for your albums?
The Beatles were the whole package.
Not a singles band.
Surely 'a' singles band is a band who had some canny good singles but the albums weren't too hot whereas the 'best' singles band don't necessarily have to meet that definition therefore it's ok for them to be canny good at albums as well?

Dug out their old greatest hits cd - Creedence Clearwater Revival had some canny singles out.

Abba were a tremendous singles band - especially the dark haired one.

Did any band really release a better list of singles than:

From Me To You
She Loves You
I Want To Hold Your Hand
I Feel Fine
Day Tripper/We Can Work It Out
Strawberry Fields Forever/Penny Lane
All You Need Is Love
Hello Goodbye/I Am The Walrus
Lady Madonna
Hey Jude/Revolution
Get Back/Don't Let Me Down
Ballad Of John & Yoko
Let It Be
Yes. Yes they did.

Alison
Watching The Detectives
I Don't Want To Go To Chelsea
Pump It Up
Radio Radio
Oliver's Army
Hi Fidelity
Accidents Will Happen
I Can't Stand Up...
Pills and Soap
Every Day I Write The Book
I Want You
Tokyo Storm Warning
Veronica...

They were both
They weren't, as you can't be.
Of course you can, especially as Beatles singles were not on their albums.
That's a load of bollocks. Yes, they may have released the odd single that didnt feature on an album (they're not on their own in this regard) but the majority were on albums. Albums that are sublime, which means they definitely weren't a singles band.

Check your facts!

The Beatles were different than other groups. They didn't include many of their singles on their albums, even when they came from the same recording sessions. The reason given by The Beatles and producer George Martin was that they didn't want fans who bought the single to have to pay for those songs again on an album.

I don't need to. As I said they did have singles on albums. You said they didn't.

I presume you own most of their albums? Have a look at the track listings and realise your mistake marra.

It’s not a mistake, there was no such thing as Album bands when The Beatles started out.
Everything was geared to singles and even EPs.
Why do you think there was so much made of Led Zeppelin not releasing singles?
Maybe because it was unusual for the time?
