Racist Sportsmen or just daft young lads

They use common sense and say this was an irresponsible tweet made over 10 years ago when he was a teenager for which he's apologised.

Remind cricketers of their duty to act responsibly not only on social media but in all situations, bring the matter to a close and no further comments will be made about it.

It's wrong to make somebody a scapegoat for something they wrote as a teenager over 10 years ago.
If they hadn't suspended him what do you think the reaction would have been to their 'Diversity Action plan'?

Ridiculous that the ECB have banned Robinson for something he posted 10 years ago that he has apologised over. Also it's barely racist, at worst it's poor taste but not deserving of this witch hunt.
"Barely Racist" - what's it like in that cave you live in?

Maybe he's turned his life around, you know like they always say when someone used to mug grannies and deal drugs, minor shit like that.

Fuck winning on the field, just try to get as many of the oppositions players suspended for historic offences as possible. We'd better have an entire division on this for the Ashes, the Aussies must be ripe for it.

That's just nonsense.

You can argue that nobody cared back in the 70's but not in the early 2000's.

Even if that were the case, it's no excuse.
It's always existed but nobody has done anything about it until now but even so, something that was written ten years ago at a time when other stuff went on and none of this made news, shouldn't be punished with a suspension. He can't unwrite what he wrote ten years ago and he most likely knows how big a mistake he made but there's nothing he can do about that now whereas if this had happened recently then there'd be more of an argument.

So once a racist always a racist? Pointless having anti racist groups anymore then.
There’s an interesting school of thought that states that society wasn’t yet ready for the social media revolution - or at least the pace in which it affects our lives and the lives of others.
Essentially we went straight from the home / pub/ office / match ....bang onto platforms which were way beyond our domain or comfort..... or control .
There was no test or training or lead in - the anonymity was a green light for freedom of expression , however distasteful- we thought we were amongst discreet friends.
Only now are we finally learning thats it’s not an extension of our innermost self , of normality, only now are we learning that it’s a pants down , arse out exposure - to be analysed in the granular.
The early social media years or at least it’s content will not carry forward - it will be a beige venue with neutral language.
Fear itself will self govern - perhaps that’s not a bad thing.
I've never named called on a forum, and I don't think any of my friends do either. If you name call on the IInternet, it's a good bet that you also do it in the life.

id Hate to be offended by everything like you seem to be, a young lad makes a joke that mentions a religion and you’re outraged.
Maybe my cave isn’t from a time where my insecurities make me want to make everyone be a target or just maybe I’m not ready to be offended on behalf of someone else.

Young lads these days must be scared to try to chat a lass up in a bar or share a joke with their mates.

We need a more considerate society and we need to be better towards each other but we still needs elements of risk, fun and excitement in our lives.

It seems the pendulum has swung too far one way - what will the reaction be??
