i am all for protecting your wicket, but that needs improving as it just creates pressure

Trott, an accumulator, was at 47

He blocks half volleys. He’s an attritional and limited batsman and with as many limitations as he has he needs to be proactive with his running between the wickets and ball placement. He does neither of those either. It’s very difficult to watch him

I think you would like some stats wouldn’t you? So I looked up

of batsmen with more than 500 career runs, he is the 33rd slowest in test history. A lot of these are bowlers

That’s quite telling. I don’t think he’s got any shots apart from nudging off the hip. He’s just had a juicy half volley and he’s skewed it with no pace or power to mid on for a single. He does that with consistency.
