Intercity 125's

Not quite Professor.

Still some short sets in Scotland and some banana stock

It’s a shame because the locos were still in good shape, but the Mk3 stock with slam doors was too expensive to upgrade.

Those in Scotland will never run at 125 though, there isn’t enough braking power in 5 coaches to work at that speed.

Fabulous machines.

Those original Valentas were second only to the Deltic for sound

Still the fastest diesels in the world IIRC

We have refurbished slam door stock so they now slide. As for the braking power grand Central used to run them at that speed and never had issue with that. Running at 125 mph in Scotland isn't impossible but scotrail have a blanket max speed of 100mph. Lner tpe and xc all run at the higher speed where we don't. Our 380s and 385s are tested up to 150 mph so can quite easy achieve those speeds but what's the point when the next stop is only a few mins away.

Travelled up and down the line to Aberdeen for donkeys years from the early1980's onwards.
The journey never got any quicker, but the old 125's were always steady away.

Always makes me laugh this. Doesn’t matter which train it is, the person nearest the door always stands with their finger around the button to show everyone else they are in control.
Or someone standing directly behind would fling their arm over your shoulder and do it for you.

The new Class 800’s arent a patch on them. Even the horns on them are shite and maintenance staff cant hear the fuckers approaching

They're tosh. You've gotta wonder if they consider the passengers at all when designing these things. Like where the plug sockets are located, and the way the tables curve up towards the window.

I stand corrected, re the braking I read that on one of the rail message boards that the HSTs were designed for 9 car sets braking.

There was a pic posted yesterday on said board of the view from a seat, it was a blank wall. They’re awful.
