Running thread 2021

i have just done the 20min on on week 5 and was dreading it before hand, managed to but dont how how ill be able to do another 5/10 in the next couple off weeks
Week 6 run 1 is a trap as you think you’ve got this having run 20 mins. Be careful and take it slow!

OK. I laid off for three weeks, took it easy when I started again, bought some new running shoes and I’ve had no more Achilles problems. The only thing is the running shoes are half a size too small and have caused the worst blister/cut. I’m now waiting for that to heal, and will start again this weekend. I had to buy the shoes online during lockdown, so couldn’t try them, and didn’t realise until a couple of runs in they were too small 😒. So that’s £120 down the drain. If it weren’t for the size they’d be spot on. ASICS gel cumulus
Also doing some very gentle yoga on non-run days and that seems to help

Are you sure you can't return them? A lot of the online running shoe retailers extended their returns policy to 90 days.

What are peoples tried and tested methods for consuming energy during long runs?

I normally just take a couple of gel sachets out if I was running a half marathon but I think I would need around 7-8 maybe more for a marathon and I'm still not sure if it would be enough.

I'm going to gradually increase my carb intake before going out for a run.

Does anyone take anything else out with them on long runs?

I dont and my long run is typically 16-20 miles, I've been taking a bottle of water the last couple of weeks but dont even generally bother with that, I get up and go as well so that's after a nights fasting in essence.

My 30 miler the other week I used tailwind, when I do my marathon will generally use the drinks on the course along with a handful of skittles every two miles.

Just eat and rehydrate over the course of the day afterwards, obviously as we move into hotter weather I'll be more likely to take water out with me.

I really start to struggle after 10-12 miles and feel like I have no energy left I just about pushed myself to 14 miles the other week but could not go any further. And that's with gel sachets. I really need to try and run easier aswell

I know the London marathon will have water and lucozade(?) Stations so hopefully that won't be too bad.

A gel after an hour and then every 20 minutes from then on. Also have EAAs in my water. I only bother for half marathon+

I’m a big lad and my cals burned from running are fairly substantial

Is anybody else really disappointed with Parkruns conduct during this lockdown? Threatening legal action against land owners who dont want events before June 21st, encouraging people to harass councils etc...

It seems like a good thing has been hijacked by people who dont get the values that made it great i the first place.

I don’t know why they’ve been so keen to go so early, they could’ve easily gone for end of June and not caused the bother for themselves.
