Dalian Atkinson - Police on trial

If they have physical evidence of the imprint of a copper's bootlaces in his face and of the Taser being deployed for that long it's pretty damning.
Yes unless he was displaying some sort of deadly force (knife/weapon etc) at the time then they can't use that force, which by all accounts it says he wasn't. Says the female officer was hitting him with her baton whilst he lay motionless.

Sounds like they were out of control. A kick in the head... Dear me.

More public servants with a badge on a power trip thinking they are above the law

Make an example out of them, meant to be setting an example on how to conduct yourself and murder a clearly troubled man in cold blood

Disgusting behaviour which has become the norm in our corrupt and uneducated police, they need to start employing more educated people because any thicky can get in at present, embarrassing some of the people they take on, I know a few with nothing between the ears who are now “protecting” the public

Wouldn’t trust them with a bucket of water if my pants were on fire, nakas the lot of them

How else did you expect this to go @monkeytassle

Have a word with yourself if you think this is anything other than an abuse of power with a vulnerable person

If true they'll be looking at manslaughter and custodial.

I suspect the 33 seconds defence will probably be based on the previously unsuccessful taser attempts, going off the article.

Ms Healy said another witness living in the road, Paula Quinn, had thought the officers "kicked him 15 times as she counted them. They kicked him at full force".
"Dalian was not moving when the officers were kicking him," Ms Healy added.
😕

I imagine what's happened is a couple of fairly ordinarily paid people went to start their shift and were faced with a person clearly out of their box. Said person being a rather large chap. Id like to see you walk a mile in their shoes. Particularly as a female officer.

Atkinson died on 15 August 2016 after being tasered by police near his father's house in Trench, Telford.[23] Police had responded to a call as Atkinson threatened to kill his father, Ernest. Atkinson's older brother Kenroy said "My brother had lost it. He was in a manic state and depressed – out of his mind and ranting. He had a tube in his shoulder for the dialysis and he had ripped it out and was covered in blood. He got dad by the throat and said he was going to kill him. He told dad he had already killed me, our brother Paul and sister Elaine and he had come for him."

Part of the problem is he sounds like he was having a meltdown of some kind, and most likely he was off his face and causing a noise nuisance rather than being a threat to anyone. It shouldn't have been a matter for the police but that's who gets called. I shouldn't think they had much training for the situation they had in front of them.

My sympathy stops there because there's a procedure for subduing and arresting people that's non lethal, and that clearly wasn't followed

See this is going exactly as I thought.
The trial is over I guess ;)
Both officers were in a relationship 🙄 probably explains why the WPC beat the unfortunate gentleman a number of times with her baton as he lay still on the road 😕
I don't think people get together because their level of violence might be similar...but hey, I'm no Psychologist.

Have a word with yourself for what? If you do Jury service, you won't be instructed to make a decision on the first day, though you probably will.

If he had killed his father and the police had stood and watched that would have been ok for some I guess.

Not a matter for the police? I think it was, as ridiculous as that seems.

You clearly have no clue regarding the police recruitment process if you think that those now employed are a bunch of thickies. Most are now educated to degree level and once accepted have to complete a three year degree in policing to complete their probation .
Whether that emphasis on education makes for a good cop is open for debate and I personally think it doesn’t . I would prefer officers to be practical , have common sense and good people skills rather than have degrees coming out their arseholes.
With regard to the case being discussed ,if the officers involved in this case have overstepped the mark they should be dealt accordingly but to label a whole organization due to the actions of a few is ridiculous.

In a society that had properly funded services and values people's welfare, that's a matter for trained mental health/ medical professionals with experience in dealing with and subduing safely a subject in that condition.
