The current PC graphics card situation

A £650 rtx 3080 is now £1440 in an actual shop, even more on ebay. A 3090 was £2500 in the same shop. This has pretty much killed my chances of building a gaming PC for my son anytime soon. When will this madness end? Looks like its definitely a laptop at the minute

Can you not just pick up a cheaper card till it calms down?

I was gutted after I saw how much better the 3 series cards were better than my 2070 super but after seeing what's happened to prices and supply feel like I got lucky buying a 2070 and not waiting

There’s none. Anywhere.
Even the second hand market is rediculous.

The whole market is inflated so even the older ones are expensive. A lad at work got his money back on a 1080ti 😱

Someone is asking for £3250 for a 3090 on market place 🤣

Have you tried looking at a prebuild from a decent shop?

It's more middle of the range than the cards mentioned, but I got a PC with an RTX 3060 for £1200 from CCL in Bradford (who delivery nationwide and are very good).

I think you can get machines with higher end GPUs as well.

I've just ordered a gaming laptop from pc specialist , been after a new laptop for a while and thought i'd pay bit extra to get something hopefully decent.

Never really done gaming on a laptop before only really played footy manager on them in past , always been console for gaming so not sure if what I've ordered spec wise will be much good for newer games but got gamepass on xbox so hopefully a few of those might work alright on it .

I got ridiculously lucky with my 3080 from amazon, paid about £780. I could sell it to CEX for about £1300 now.

I'm looking at the stock checker discord which I used to get mine and they do keep popping up for retail prices but you just have to be quick and beat the bots. Amazon seem to be the best prices, you order them from amazon UK but they are dispatched from amazon EU and amazon aren't adding the extra brexit fees on yet.

This was a recent drop for the same card I have, little bit more than I paid for it in Dec but its allot cheaper than from the likes of overclockers. They want closer to £1k for it, not that they have any stock.

It looks like scan are also still getting drops of the 3080 founders edition which go for £650. They last dropped some of those on thursday the 15th, so more will likely be available this thurs.

Currys is the other place that seem to get a regular supply and do them for the retail prices.

Also the only ones that are £650 are the founders editions, you can only get those from scan. The AIB cards were always more expensive.

Check Overclockers.UK. Look in the peripherals section which is for 3D printers. They put there new stock of cards in there so the bots can't find them.
I got a RX 6800 XT from them by looking in that section.
Currently awaiting stock but just keep checking.

Thanks im literally refreshing these sites throughout the day while im doing nowt at worl 🤣

Yes ive been configuring laptops on there, cant seem to get exactly what we want, its the graphics that they always struggle with and are by no means comparable to desktop versions.

Yes they are all the same, long lead times and i went to falcon in Sunderland and even there 3080 were £1400 and only available with pre built system. Building myself is out of the window as pc partpicker lists no decent gpus

I have a 780 ti from 2013 using an old AMD cpu build from 2012. It still runs fine but struggles on all modern games for obvious reasons.

In anticipation of the new 5900x and 3080 I upgraded my case, cooling, PSU etc. Spent about £600. I’ve practically given up with my build for now. Not a chance in hell I’m paying the prices listed.

Luckily I bought a new Xbox to put me off.

I loved my gaming laptop from PC specialist. Lasted me 5 years before the charging port broke. Was much more solid than the Acer I have replaced it with.

The machine you've ordered will run everything fine mate.

that will do me , cheers ,

I'll probably still end up mainly just on footy manager on it , but I'll be able to have a large database which i can't do well on my old one and more than one league at a time so its future proof for the new superleague :)

Football manager will be like shit off a stick on it mate. It was still fast on my 5 year old machine and my current laptop isn't as high spec as yours but it runs very well on that.

doesn't run too well on my current one - 7 year old macbook so will see the difference i'd imagine . Got gamepass as well for my xbox so will be able to give some more games a try on that . Just the waiting now as it says it won't be built till 3rd May

I waited ages for mine back then. About 3 weeks I think. Considering the parts shortages yours isn't too bad a wait marra.

Might be a daft question, but will the laptops from currys/ao around the £300 be fine for Footy manager? As long as they've got at least 8gb Ram?

My current laptop is about 6yr old only has 4gb Ram and is on its way out. It can play the new footy manager but is a bit slow and I can only have the basic database

Processor is more important than ram for FM. 8gb RAM is fine but you'll need a passable processor to make it playable.

I'm not sure a £300 laptop will be up to scratch on that front, but I could be wrong.

Been looking and I think around 500 quid will get me a decent enough one.

My current laptop has a celeron 2ghz or something. And runs slowly on the lowest database.
Somethings broke in it as when I load up footy manager the colours go all psychedelic

Aye you should get something good enough around the 500 quid mark.

Just a quick glance on AO and this would run it pretty well - 81YK0050UK | Lenovo 15.6” Laptop | ao.com
