They're f***ing unreal. The amount of RIBA members on Facebook in Sunderland astounds me every time. And the brown envelope crack. Fuck me, dull.Facebook has started. Calling them boxes, why not a leisure centre etc. No brown envelopes mentioned yet mind.
Are most houses not boxes anyhow? They're f***ing unreal. The amount of RIBA members on Facebook in Sunderland astounds me every time. And the brown envelope crack. Fuck me, dull.

Yes but these sort of people expect a 4 bed detached new build for that price. Most offices are but they complain about that also.
I do wonder if they stuck a pitched roof on the housing if that would satisfy the naysayers.
On affordable homes aren’t there any amount of affordable homes to buy in Sunderland? I appreciate that some of these may not be in the most desirable areas but you can buy a flat or a cottage in certain parts for c. £60k, if not less.
It’s the roll on effect no matter how much they are. People move into them freeing up space eventually working its way down the line until it frees like you say 30k-50k flats and cottages. Most offices are but they complain about that also.

Flat roof does seem to be the choice for most architects for one reason or another, not sure if it’s to put PV on or to create accessible outdoor space, but like you I am usually dubious about a flat roof. It’s the roll on effect no matter how much they are. some people won’t be happy until the architect knocks on their door and asks their advice. Mind being a roofer, flat roofs are crap and a lot harder to get a mortgage for.
Thing is though how many people already live within walking distance of the city centre. Remember it's already surrounded by Millfield, Eden Vale, Ashbrooke, Hendon, the East End, Roker, Monkwearmouth etc... add to that the uni students and people already live in the city centre there must be 1000sIt looks like the right way forward to me. City centres are shrinking rapidly as retail moves more and more online. Having 2,500 people living within walking distance increases the chances of creating a smaller, thriving city centre
That's what I see every time a new load of houses are going up.
It's absolute bollocks.
They're not building "affordable" housing anymore because there's no money in it for them.
If I won Euromillions big style, I'd be tempted to buy some land to build an estate of actually affordable homes for people.
It wouldn't stop people moaning about things mind, but it might mean there's one less new estate of 3 bedroom vertical shoeboxes that are "detached" because there's a 2ft gap between the houses but you can still hear each other take a dump
Must be much fewer than most other major cities though who have large apartment developments? And another issue is more so is the disposable income of those who currently live in or around the city centre?Thing is though how many people already live within walking distance of the city centre. he's as bad as the rest of them...a buy to rent landlord depriving younguns of a chance of getting on the property ladder with his cash cow property.Aren’t you a landlord? Difficult to take your ire seriously
Point is though people already live in and around the city centre what is being done to attract them into the centre day and nightMust be much fewer than most other major cities though who have large apartment developments? Apart from select areas 70% of sunderland is average streets developed to death with no nod to what the rest of the street looks like yet they dare to moan about new projectsFacebook has started. Calling them boxes, why not a leisure centre etc. No brown envelopes mentioned yet mind.
I agree but the issue is they didnt support what was there to start with. The usually ask for better shops and pubs just won’t happen unless they change the make up and social demographic of the city centre in terms of disposable spend as why would business come to Sunderland?Point is though people already live in and around the city centre what is being done to attract them into the centre day and night

Its more creating a feel buzz. We're talking breakfast bars ,small grocers and bakeries ,early evening night life ,people walking 2 minutes to a place not 15-20 minutesThing is though how many people already live within walking distance of the city centre. It's a shame we don't have some sort of government type system in place that could build affordable, not for profit, social housing.
