Football Manager 2021

Similar to mine. Had massive success this FM with direct instructions and pacey wingers. Also had a great long throw tactic but not as effective since the update

They nerfed long throws completely because they got highlighted massively over the last few months on Twitch.

So inspired by @Flash Gordon I took on Cork City, an Irish team with good routes that has okay facilities and has underachieved over the last few years. It’s been a tough few year, they’ve went into admin and were bought by the fans, but still got relegated last season.

First season won the league comfortably and only lost once. The board only wanted the play offs and managed to excel, signed a few young Irish players from English clubs on loan, and went 4-1-2-2-1 with pace down the wings and trying to be direct, whilst also being to get the ball down and play. Second season there’s 6 games left and I’m currently sitting in 4th, Shamrock have won the league but I’m only 2 points behind St Patrick’s in second, and I’m level with Dundalk in third with a game in hand.

Managed to get En-Neyah, a young Irish forward from Forest on loan, scored 17 in 15 first season and now he’s the divisions top goalscorer. He ran down his contract at Forest and he accepted a 2 year deal, couldn’t believe it. Also managed to get a young Irish centre back from Ipswich on loan and then permanent and Jose Baxter on a free playing as a deep lying playmaker, but I have managed to get a young cm from Man Utd on a free who will probably be one of the best at this level. Sean Scannell is on the left but has been very poor so need a replacement, as he’s not doing enough.

Going to try and win the league next season but I need a new coaching set up and about 5 new players, in all it’s a struggle playing against Shamrock who have managed to sign Will Keane from Wigan so they’re the giants I need to topple. The plan is to develop young players and to sell them on, and being to continuously do this but also being to recruit good Irish players with the money generated. Good start but enjoying the save and still a lot of work to do

Never considered the other British leagues. Was tempted by a Scottish Lower league like...

Not sure I can turn my Ujpest save back on. After a slow start Ferencvaros are now obliterating everyone and went ahead of me to top the league. 10 games left and I was 3 points behind, played them away.

Went 3-1 down, clawed back to 3-3 then had a man sent off with 20 mins left. Was creating the better chances then, of course, 94th minute they score the winner.

Gutted. Never going to claw back 6 points on them in 10 games, another season as runners up. Thats despite my front 3 being the league's top 3 scorers and this being my first league defeat. I've Jack Ross-ed it.
Quick turnaround, 5 games to go, it might actually happen

(Although my top scorer, Gustavo Gotti, is out for 5-7 weeks with a sports hernia. That said, his replacement Patrick Bacsa scored a hat trick when coming back in for him).

I'm finding the scouting to be crap on fm21.

Will only find players who are class that don't want to join you. In 6 seasons they must have found 4 quality regens.

Just spent this preseason scouting the under 21s and national teams sorting by age and value and found loads of class players who want to join me as well.

Just a tip if anyone's having similar problems

Humble brag time. Won everything in my last season with Sunderland in FM20. 2032/33 season. League, League Cup, FA Cup and Champions League (and Community Shield, but yeah). Not really sure what to do now.

I even started a 2nd manager to create a super-feeder club in Poland. Cracovia (cos they play in Red and white stripes of course). Upgrading all their infra and set up as an affiliate so I can loan about 10 players to them. Won the league and cup in the first full season there too.

Really want to send all my wonderkids there to build them into superstars of the future, but I kinda feel like I've already "completed it". now.
Not sure whether to quit or continue.

Not sure I can be bothered with a new save either.

I'm surprised your computer is coping with that. Mine would be taking forever to load a day with two managers in the year 2033.

Decided to have at least one more season.
Even though we have £150m in the bank, and I've never made much of a loss in any given season, and the game says our transfer debt is only about £20m, for some reason the club's forecasts have us going massively into the red in 2-3 years, and our finances are only "Okay".

When I try to get overseas affiliates for youth players, or to raise profile, the board always say no - and if I push, they say "due to our current financial situation, its a no". So I think the board think we are skint, its odd.

Also, they keep refusing to extend the SOL, even though its 98% average filled across the season. I bet we'd get another 10k or so in most games. They won't even entertain extending, I've even scumsaved just to test if pushing it right to resigning would convince them, but nope.
I think its because they think we don't have the cash.

Going to have a bit of a mass sell off of U23 prospects who aren't going to make it + one 31 year old who's been surpassed by an academy player (I've been short on HGC players forever, so I really need to fix that) - that should be £100m or so profit. And there's no big signings this season, the squad is nigh-on perfect and I have some amazing wonderkids who need some games this season to really step up.

On that HGC thing, I've realised that loaning 18 year olds out that you've bought isn't a good idea, you need to keep them in your U23s for 3 years before they hit 22, otherwise they don't become HGC, and you need 4 of them for your CL squads. I've been 2 short in my squads for the last 2 years, and it can make a big difference.

Ricky Jade Jones from Peterborough reserves is an absolute goal machine he’s got pace 19 acceleration 19 won the Boldon boy award in second season and for over 40 goals a season in the prem

Well the Colombian league is an absolute cluster fuck.

So the league is split into 2 halves like many latin American leagues. You play 20 games in a half season (20 team league, you play your rivals twice) and if you finish in the top 8, you then qualify for a playoffs type situation. The playoffs however is 2 leagues of 4 and you play home and away. The winner of each group then meets in a final to decide the Champion. So when you look at the winners of the Colombian League, you get 2 a season, the winner of each final. However. there's also a combined league and all team talks etc. seem to be about winning that competition (even though you get no trophy or title). Then the winners of each half, play in another trophy, I guess to decide the overall Champions, but it's more of a super cup and no-one is bothered about the result. Oh, and relegation seems to be decided on a ridiculous system of average points over 3 years - which means in theory you could win the title and be relegated in the same season.

My record remains intact though - a title win in every season I've been a manager. I managed to comfortably win the 2nd half of the season, winning 17 of my 20 games. I then won my group stage and beat Envigado in the final 7-0 over 2 legs. 28 games to win half a season  Every cup match is 2 legs as well and I was knocked out in the semi finals. I've worked it out that to win the treble (1st and 2nd half of the season plus the cup) would be a 66 game season, and that's before factoring in continental competition.

There is plenty to like about the team itself though. The whole Colombian league is full of young talent and my team is full of it. I signed 2 or 3 17 year olds who play every game. I also finished with the top scorer in the division, 18 year old Jonny Solano who scored 30 goals. Talent seems cheap enough to sign, but they all seem to insist on release clauses to foreign clubs of around the £2m mark so there will be a lot of turnover.

It was nice to win the title with Junior FC and I will probably continue, but it's a hell of a slog.

Well I've resigned from my job as manager of Junior as it's just an effort. I won 18 of my 20 games in the Apertura and won the playoffs again. So 2 titles and the super cup in 1 season

There's just so many games though and a lot of player movement - they will all only sign 2 year deals and all demand minimum release fees that are relatively low. So there are constantly deals and new contracts going on.

I want to build a team that I can keep together and develop which probably means a big European League but the big 5 bore me. So I'll either take a job at the top of tier 2 (Holland, Turkey, Portugal) or I go for the club and country type challenge with San Marino or FC Andorra and try to build a nation.

A challenge to build a side that can break the O tres Grandes clubs in Portugal?

Possibly, though the pattern will be similar to what I usually do and it'll take a long time to challenge in Europe with players being poached.

Got any team suggestions for Portugal?

Belenenses and Boavista are the only two non O tres Grandes teams to have won the national title previously. The former being Lisbon's third team and the latter Porto's second team. Theres scope to bring back glory days there, or perhaps build a side capable of winning major honours that never have before? I guess it'd depend what level you'd want to start at too.

Did you know the recent goings on with Belenenses? They basically did a Wimbledon. Bust up between the owners of the Sports Club and the football team led to a split. Belenenses SAD are MK Dons, in the top flight with no history. The fans took OS Belenenses name, badge, stadium and history and started again.

So one of the only 2 teams outside of the 'O Tres Grandes' to ever win the Portuguese league are currently sat in the 4th Division... and it's a playable league!! If that isn't a Flash Gordon save then I don't know what is!

Yeah, didn't we play the new 'pretendy' version in a friendly a few seasons back? Canny ground in Belem too, a lovely part of a cracking city.

8th season in with the lads, got a decent team. Won the FA cup and Euro cup.

But this season we just cant seem to get going at all, I'm 14th at Christmas. Was third at this stage last year.

Not really what to do, and keep getting the pressure mounting on James etc.

Tried to pull a team meeting to lift spirts and everyone left delighted and we got beat of west brom who are 20th 4-0 at home day after!

Players in my side who aren't Regens are. 433 (sp) on the names.

Pickford

Alphonso Davies Vanheusden Loic Mbe soh(backup) Lovato. Udokhai (backup) Semedo (back up)

Tielemans, Zaracho, Rovella, Verscharen

LW Pullisic (loan) Curtis Jones
RW Saelmakeers Nmecha (back up)

ST- DCL, Cuncha.

So teams pretty decent.

Made a fortune on players on this save! Think I worked out, id made 200m profit!

I'm finding it to be the complete opposite, I'm not having to search manually for players any more because my scouts are consistently bringing me 17, 18, 19 year old wonderkids who want to join me and have a very small release clause in their contracts. Have you spent time hiring and expanding your recruitment team? The recruitment team you start with (as Sunderland) is arse. Hire the best scouts and analysts you can and send them to scout their home countries. A large portion of my youngsters are Argentinian, if you can only scout one country, scout Argentina.
