"Bars full of folk who can barely even order a drink in Spanish" - any different to those living in the UK who can't speak English.

"Sitting at the bar complaining about Pakis and Poles in England ruining their country." Any different to those sitting at the bar in Spain complaining about those brexiteer/Tory lovers ruining their country
So they are complaining about immigrants failing or refusing to integrate in their old home country (which, in fairness, they do), while they themselves are immigrants who have failed or refused to integrate in Spain.

No double-standard to see here. Please move along.

Generally speaking, I find the English people who have holiday homes speak very little Spanish, whilst those who live in Spain permanently make much more of an effort. Also, if Brits are only there for the beer and the sun, then they are more likely to live on the Costas, (not saying people don't want to assimilate if they live there as well).

However, if Brits choose to live inland, then the likelihood is that there won't be many of their fellow countrymen and they will make more of an effort to be part of the local Spanish community.

That's a sweeping generalisation though.

I believe that per head, the Spanish drink as much as the British. However, they tend not to binge and space it out, especially with family meals.

For example we were in a local restaurant and had a meal. When we finished, the waiter came over and asked if we wanted any coffee, we said "no, just more beers ".
We waited and waited and waited. When I saw the waiter and asked him where the beer was, he said "I thought you were joking!"

Great post . I spend a lot of time over there and don't know any boorish flag waving types just ordinary people who have done something with their lives and are trying to make the best of what time they have left . I don't say such people dont' exist, probably in the London Borough of Camposol they do . In a place where you can get a 3 bedroomed detached with it's own pool for way less that 100k what would you expect ? Pity is there will be thousands of decent people stuck there in unsaleable properties . Some wankers on here will be overjoyed about that of course .

As with many other aspects of life, British culture is divided here in Spain.
When I say "divided", I mean polarised.

I work PT in an office that deals with residencia application, pensions, wills etc for Brits in the Alicante province.

Although we've had dozens of Brits walking in from December onwards asking for residencia that would never qualify, there are thousands more that are legitimately living here.

Despite what is reported in the media, the VAST majority of Brits here are EU supporters, paying taxes, doing the right thing and living very much "above the radar".

As usual, it's the mouthy ones that make the headlines, especially if some hack can introduce some irony or shoe-horn their editor's agenda into an article.
Will one of these ETIAS visas help property owners avoid the 90/180 rule . I know they wont be available until the end of next year .
