Anyone got a Persimmon house.

We’ve reserved with Avant, house is built and pretty much finished, just waiting on the chain, mortgage, legal stuff etc.
Very nervous about buying our first new build

The absolute worst of the mass new build generators. Standards are absolutely dogshit and the service matches it.
It’s just a conveyor belt for them, personally I would avoid.

Not all companies are bad mind, but unfortunately companies like Persimmon give new builds a terrible reputation.

Like I say looking through reviews. People tend to have a go when things go wrong and not praise as much when right. Can’t understand why not just do a good job in the first place. Loads of things could be put right before customer see it. Some so obvious.

Strange as no need to give identity when doing reviews.
You’re right, for every shit house there’ll be 100 that have very few issues. Same as a car, you only hear about the ones that are broken.

It’s a huge commitment but you’ve got to trust the system.

Accept things will go wrong, so many different trades, all working a day rate or hourly with virtually no comeback.

Also, what is insignificant to you and I could be the end of the world for someone else.

Try knocking on a few doors on the estate and asking. 🤷‍♂️

Persimmon were f***ing shite with ours around 12 years ago. Snagging list was submitted and lost at least half a dozen times. They site foreman went missing for weeks on end and customer services got to the point of actually refusing to speak to us.
Pretty much every stair in the house creaks.
Don’t think I’d buy from them again. Their after care service for a £145k house was nothing short of a f***ing disgrace.
If you do buy be prepared to chase them to do anything at all.

We're looking at a Taylor Wimpey. Thread like this get me nervous.

Has anyone ever had a snagging company come out before completing? Ive heard its worth doing incase of any major problems.

My mate bought one from Taylor Wimpey a few years ago and the finish is 100x better than Persimmon. Really decent new build.

Tbf. Some of the complaints. A bobble on the paint, a scratch here and squeak there I would just crack on and do them myself. I know you shouldn’t have to but I would. As long as it’s not roof leaks. Gas leaks and dangerous things then I’m ok with that.

I live in a Taylor Wimpey. Had loads of problems and they were shite at sorting them but got them done eventually. Still not happy with a few things but couldn't be arsed whinging anymore.

Is this in the Northeast? Our lasses mate is the lass you will be whinging to about your snags if so.

Oh, and if you have a job like teaching where you cant take time off, then you're going to have a lot of trouble if anything goes wrong as they wont come out on weekends & dont give a shit that you have to go to work.

Seems to me that you don’t give a shit that they only work M-F though, it works both ways.

It’s hardly an insurmountable problem ffs.

I’ve not had a bit of bother with Miller. A few cracks, which you would expect with a new build as it settles, came in no bother and did everything I asked.
Even had the lads off the site, like the joiner, come in and do bits and bobs of personal stuff like hang pictures.
As others have said we are great at complaining but not so good at giving credit where it’s due.

They're sub contracted tradesmen. Tradesmen work whenever. If you're a teacher it is a big problem.

No it’s not , get a relation over , get a friend to let them in , or god forbid give the key to the site agent and let them do the remedial work whilst you’re at work.

I had some relatively serious remedial work done on my new build when I was away on holiday , all done and dusted when I got back.

Why should I expect a friend or relative to sit in the house waiting for upto 10 hours for them to turn up. And the site agent wasnt there every day.

They should be going out of their way to sort out their shite workmanship that caused the problems in the first place

The new build market is a double whammy for buyers.

1. Corporate greed means the companies genuinely don't give a monkeys about the customer. Most big companies see a customer service team as dead money so they tend to scrimp on that end of the buaimess.

2. Trades are less well trained and in some cases hardly trained at all - a bit of on the job training and some experience gets you a job on many estates these days. "Just get those five units done this week" i.e. production at any cost.

If you have the time take a look at a new build near you. Even the show house is likely to have poorly painted skirtings and architraves. If this highly visible easy to apply finish is poor just imagine what the hidden away stuff is like?

We were lucky as she was on maternity, but odd day I needed to see them it was hard work. We'd never have managed if we were both at work and we aren't teachers.

Problem is that they have no quality assurance processes for the finish to my knowledge. I found various people would say different things up as they went on.

It was hard work and some things we gave up on, bit ultimately if you want to live in a certain area, you have little choice at times.

We’ve had two. Both have been fine. Their after care is abysmal but luckily we’ve not had any major issues for it to be more than an inconvenience. Others have had bigger issues than we’ve had and had to fight a fair bit to get it sorted.

if you do go for it, don’t pay list price and try and barter as much as you can. We got about £15k knocked off price both times and plenty of overpriced stuff from their options thrown in.
I went out with a lass who sold houses for wimpy and she said that so many people walked in and paid the list price but it was her job to negotiate the price and people just made her job very easy

It wasn't too bad for me as work are very flexible with holidays & that. I was pissed off as I lost a few days holiday leave through their incompetence which were completely avoidable had they'd shown a basic amount of organisation.
If I didn't have that flexibility at work, I'd have been knackered.

We got the Persimmon Show home last June , got a cracking deal on it as came with all the upgrades already and a double drive and double garage ,love the house but have had a far few snags , they have got them all sorted eventually but you have to keep hounding them for it to be done.
Had a lot of snags when we first moved in and we were getting nowhere with them, anyway the NHBC survey came so obviously slated them for the after care and unresolved snags, about 2 days later they sent someone round to resolve all the snags, don't think that was a coincidence.
