Anyone got a Persimmon house.

We’ve had two. Both have been fine. Their after care is abysmal but luckily we’ve not had any major issues for it to be more than an inconvenience. Others have had bigger issues than we’ve had and had to fight a fair bit to get it sorted.

if you do go for it, don’t pay list price and try and barter as much as you can. We got about £15k knocked off price both times and plenty of overpriced stuff from their options thrown in.

Got £5k off + lots of upgrades. Carpets, doors, kitchen, etc. Just a bit nervous even though most reviews a bad (but so are other builders) most people moan when something wrong more than praise when right. Surely every house can’t be bad like as you say.
Wouldn’t go near a new build
Heard some story last week on radio that they are forcing people to sign nda’s before they’ll rectify major snagging issues
NDA?

Oh, and if you have a job like teaching where you cant take time off, then you're going to have a lot of trouble if anything goes wrong as they wont come out on weekends & dont give a shit that you have to go to work.

In fairness there some excellent new builds out there - the new build reputation is tarnished by the appalling delivery of certain developers whose only responsibility is to the balance sheet.
However I take your point, there’s some diabolical shite about. Shame for those who are trying to build a decent property.

Gagging order, although this must be a recent thing if they do them. All I would say is if you do have any problems dont just leave it after you've asked once & hope theyll eventually do it cos they wont. You need to hound & hound them until they do.

Thing is if it’s fine then you aren’t going to shout about it. We’ve never written a review for either of our houses cos we got what we paid for. The slightest thing goes wrong and they won’t want to know so of course people are going to complain about it.

There’s also a perception that people who buy new builds think they’re better than they are so you get a lot of stick from some people about quality etc. At the end of the day we’ve been happy in both of ours and that’s all that matters. Hopefully yours will be the same.

Does that not show they make good homes?

If he got no bonus the company would mean they/he was doing a shit job.
It means they sell a lot of homes and make a good wedge - hence his bonus - it’s profit related not customer satisfaction related.
I should have posted that the bonus provoked an avalanche of complaints by dissatisfied customers at the time.

Don’t know how long it’s been going. I can withhold 1.5% of price until all snagging done. Surely the onus is to do snagging.
Yep be thorough up front. The stuff you snag in the tour or whatever they call it should get sorted. After that it is a pain to get them to respond let alone fix anything. You do really have to keep at them.

His bonus was actually linked to the rise in share price also.
A few people on here will know this fella as he lives locally.

There used to be an open space in our village. The top half had football goals and a playpark on it. The bottom half was wild grass, trees and shrubs. It was popular with dog walkers but flooded in bad weather as it's at the bottom of some hills and all the water pools there. Persimmon claimed there was no historic evidence of flooding and refused to listen to existing residents who have plodged through it on a regular basis!

My friend has a house next to it. She has a tiny front garden then the field. They view over the field and the fact the bairns could run in and out safely was a massive factor in buying it.

Persimmon bought the land and managed to shoehorn approx 70 houses by building three story town houses. They look ugly! My poor friend now has a view of a back fence and the bairns have lost their playing out space.

The houses at the bottom end keep complaining as when it rains heavily, their back gardens are underwater.

After complaints by locals about loss of play facilities, Persimmon agreed to put in a small play park. However they've put some legal thing in the selling documents that nobody has picked up on. On completion of the estate, the play park is now owned by about 60 of the 70 houses (the affordable housing ones don't have to pay). Those households are responsible for all costs regarding the park, including maintained and upkeep and and compensation claims should someone get injured. They don't want to pay as some don't have small children and others don't think it's fair as children from all over the village will play in the park. The council cannot adopt the park due to this legal thing. I don't really understand it but until it gets sorted, the playpark is locked and nobody is allowed to play in it.

So yeah, I hate Persimmon!
