Vegan Thread

Daughter has been vegetarian since she was eight - last straw was her Grandad "That's good local meat, remember we went for that walk and we fed the cows..." Son was the opposite and wanted his steak 'sealed', then suddenly about 2 years ago at 23 he goes immediately across the full spectrum to Vegan, strict other than he doesn't care about 'made in a factory where there is also etc'. Obviously he now looks down on his sister for 'only' being vegetarian. In the time that he has been, the food has evolved dramatically - particularly in the ready meal options. I prefer the Greggs vegan sausage roll to the meat one, and Tesco do a "pepper steak" plant based pie that is superb.

Morrisons do a spinach and pine nut farfalle that is really nice. A couple of cartons for £2.50 in their chilled food section. My favourite pasta at the moment.

The other half is vegan and does the cooking.
Tonight a nut roast which in the past would have had all the allure, the taste and the seduction of slowly roasted sawdust.
Cracked it.
Mixed with cranberries and mushrooms and drizzled in a Pedro Ximenez sauce. Mash and some roasted veg.
Stands up to any meat meal we used to eat

So from that we can conclude that vegans don't diet or exercise. probably because they're so weak from not having a balanced nutritional intake. cheers.

In my case the exact opposite, when I’ve been eating meat/eggs in the past and training similar to how I am now, I generally ache a lot and have to put a lot of effort into recovery. The recovery time is significantly faster when I eat plant based.

What type of curry do you want? Anything from Al's kitchen can be made vegan by not putting meat in!
Something with a bit of heat, Madras level upwards.

Made a Korma from the Bosh book which I know is mild but it was just a bit meh!

Tried beyond meat burgers the other day. I did add real cheese as I’m not actually veggie/ vegan and some lettuce, tomato, onion and chipotle sauce and have to say they were very good, better than many meat burgers I’ve had.

I've ended up making my own version of curries and they aren't trying to mimic any from the takeaway.

Just experimented over the years and, to be honest, it is difficult to go wrong. I'm sure an indian might turn their nose up but my spiced lentil and veg stews do me fine.

Are you missing any meat today Harry?

Me too, but these are still class. Have you tried them? Well worth the effort.
