Astra Zeneca

No, but you would like to know why some people are getting severe blood clots. For example, if people with high blood pressure or cystic fibrosis are more at risk, don't give it to them.

I honestly think that stopping the rollout will do more harm than good. The ema or whatever it is called will come to the same conclusion on Thursday.

For me, and it's just my opinion it's either a batch issue or a political one as on mass it has similar thromboembolic events to pzifer which is getting no scrutiny like az.

Thinking about this it could be political, but not in an anti British or arse covering way.

I have no idea how the blood clot story has been covered in foreign media. I imagine it's possible, or even likely, equivalents of the Sun or Mail are whipping out horror stories.

If that's the case stories about the AZ vaccination could be causing refusals and lowering take-up rates of all vaccines further affecting the roll-out.

With that in mind despite the WHO, EU and British regulators saying its fine, and the rate of blood clots being no higher than you'd expect to see in the population, being seen to err on the side of caution on this vaccination could be a way to improve take-up.

Anyway, it's just a thought.

They are quite transparent in Ireland about it. The Norwegians contacted the Irish Medical Officer about the deaths in Norway. The NEPHET (body responsible for advising on virus) advised the Governement that it wasn't safe to use the drug until these deaths have been investigated. The Irish Governement decided to suspend the use of the AZ until these results come back which is expected to be on Thursday.

Believe me, the last thing the Irish Government (or any Government) want is to lose the use of a vaccine that they have stock of.

Its all political to get at the UK according to the geniuses of the SMB! You couldnt make it up.

There seems to be less risk of this happening for older people with AZ. Is there enough data on the effects of younger people? On a personal basis, I have a brother who died from an aneurism, so I'd like to know a bit more about how an AZ vaccine before taking it considering the family history.

I had two blood clots in the heart four years ago and am on heart meds for life. Regardless of what any possible new findings show one way or another am I fuck getting this one. I didn't want it in the first place and there is no chance am getting it now. I prefer one of the other two. That isn't politics or anything else shouted about willy-nilly in these freds, it's personal. If that makes me a snowflake or whatever, fine.
What are your reasons behind not wanting the AZ one but accepting the other two, which im guessing by that you mean the Moderna and Pfizer (not sure if Denmark have approved others or not). Btw this is not in any way confrontational just curious as to your thoughts.

Are the countries pulling this vaccine over reacting to a tiny number of side effects that should be expected, where there isn’t total proof it’s the vaccine causing issues? Is it just political? Booked in for mine Thursday and after no trepidation at all, am suddenly a little uneasy. Should I be? Don’t obviously even know if I would be offered that one, but now having niggling thoughts about it..

Seriously, I had mine a few weeks ago and I experienced exactly the same doubts that you are expressing even before all this political game playing. Just go for it

ROME (Reuters) -

The decision by Germany, France and Italy to suspend AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 shots after several countries reported possible serious side-effects is a “political one”, the director general of Italy’s medicines authority AIFA said on Tuesday.

“We got to the point of a suspension because several European countries, including Germany and France, preferred to interrupt vaccinations... to put them on hold in order to carry out checks. The choice is a political one,” Nicola Magrini told daily la Repubblica in an interview.

Magrini said that the AstraZeneca vaccine was safe and that the benefit to risk ratio of the jab is “widely positive”. There have been eight deaths and four cases of serious side-effects following vaccinations in Italy, he added.

Aifa will take two to three days to collect all required data and once “doubts are cleared we can carry on at a faster speed than before,” Magrini said.

Purely based on how effective the vaccines are. Pfizer and Moderna show ninety-five and ninety-four percentages respectively, the AZ shows seventy. With my health issues I prefer one that covers me the most. It isn't about being Anti-British or anything silly like that, it is purely based on how I feel the other two would be better for me personally. And that was my feelings even before my country suspended the AZ.

Also, I would rather only wait two weeks for my second jab than up to three months.

There's absolutely no evidence for AZ vaccine causing blood clots. Those receiving the jab so far have suffered from fewer blood clots than those unvaccinated.

No idea what is going on in Europe. I think they tend to be a bit backwards when it comes to vaccines anyway, and are very wary of them.

Are you in the UK? Never sure

If so you will not be given a choice of which one. Community vaccinations here are predominantly AZ

I think it was shown recently in the UK that one dose of AZ was slightly more effective than Pfizer at preventing hospitalisation (both were over 80%)

On real world studies the pfizer vaccine after one dose reduces hospitalizations 85% and the AZ 94%

The test results I read at the end of last year showed seventy per cent for AZ's first jab and up to ninety after the second jab. It is still lower than the other twos of ninety-five and ninety-four and I would have to wait up to three months to be covered up to just ninety. Why would I choose to wait much longer for my second jab only to get a lesser effectiveness.

There is a tiny sliver of doubt so 11 countries are erring on the side of caution for a few weeks to be doubly sure. It is the same as when an Airbus has an unusual engine fault, often the entire world wide fleet of that model ends up being grounded, then they find out what it was, nothing to worry about and people are off flying again.
The only difference being that grounding planes potentially saves live, whereas stopping vaccinations............
