If you are relegated he will have to spend again. Yes he may not have learnt but you going to need someone who will spend and he will
Will he? No guarantee of that. Thrice bitten and all that.
First relegation we started the next season with decent bottom half of the Premier League squad (inc 2 Argentinian Internationals) and a well liked head coach.
Second time we had saleable assets and a very good manager in charge.
If we go down this time, we've got a bottom half side, a difficult market to sell players in, with a disliked and incompetent head coach.

Ashley throwing £30m at that mess may not be enough to guarantee promotion at the first time of asking.

Unfortunately this. Although if we go up I'm not sure how much I would like them in the same league next season. Ashley will throw money at the problem to protect his investment. I would probably rather they did shit in the premier League for decades while loading themselves up with players of ndongs ability and work ethic on massive wages so when they do drop they are like what we were
Exactly. I’d hate to be in the same league they’d probably win if I’m honest.

Isn't football so wonderfully simple. Amazed every other club in the country haven't figured that strategy out.
He's not even trying to do that though. Hughton would have kept us up, Benitez was taking us in the right direction and for all the former ceded too much power to the players and the latter wanted more control over how the money is spent, if all Ashley wants is a top flight side surely those two things aren't massively important to him?

Instead he's given the job to Keegan (you can only think he was trying to get the fans on side), Kinnear, Shearer, Hughton, Pardew, Carver, McClaren, Benitez and Bruce. When decent managers fall in his lap he quickly falls out with them and goes to the who's who of shit English managers. At least other clubs have tried to find a domestic up-and-comer, or someone from the continent who's impressing.

Benitez smelt the cash. Then with Covid the cash didnt smell so rich so off he goes with "failure" ringing in his ears, albeit he has left them in a great position with all the knowledge he has provided them, well as he says.
