Kyril Louis-Dreyfus Interview

That’s as good a statement as anyone has ever given. Tone was perfect. Laid out the plan and didn’t try to bullshit and just said it how it is. Knee his history and loved the little bit at the end stating the Foundation of Light will be active in the post COVID mess in the wider community. Top stuff.

From the mouth of the owner. Calling out the previous regime. Then discussing a long term plan and investment. He's done his homework.
Very telling. Won't go down with minority shareholders SD and CM. Hope there is a plan for them to fuck off and sell the remaining shares. Be unfair if they profit from KLDs plan and money

Even though his English is excellent, I reckon he's made a bit of a mistake using the term asset-stripping. I'm sure it's not an intentional side swipe at his partners. They may be minority shareholders but they need to get along, don't they?

Their interviews were all saying that we were in the shit, that there'd be loads of cost-cutting and that it'd mean tough decisions. We lapped it up because we were so sick of the aimless spending and out of control debt problem caused by the previous owner, that we were prepared to accept someone doing the polar opposite.

KLD is saying that he has a plan, and that he'll be spending money to make us a proper club again, not cutting things back until we're a husk. It seems like a happy medium.

The other reason why Donald and Methven were so popular originally was because Short had been so distant and Donald and Methven made it their business to be as high profile and accessible as possible. It made us, as a fanbase, very susceptible to blaggers and chancers. It took way too long for much of our fanbase to admit we had been conned, but its easy to forget that they were exploiting a total information vacuum that had existed previously. Maybe we should have been more cautious, but we weren't to know how dishonest they were being about how they bought the club for example, or what they were going to do with it.

That's the thing. Big big cuts were required - no doubt about that. But their initial intentions for purchasing the club and the way they've gone about it leave a bitter taste.
They've left a shell of a football club. They went far too far with what they did and had no vision whatsoever. They're actions seriously damaged the club. Let's not lose sight of that.

not necessarily. He probably won't hear from Donald or anyone associated with Donald for a long time now.

Could even be a dig at Short tbh, he certainly didn't have long term vision.

I also heard it as more of a long term view of Sunderland than an opinion of the most recent ownership:

“KLD: “It’s a fresh start for the club. For years there’s been no long-term vision, cost cutting and asset stripping.”

I can see how people could say it includes both of last set of owners also.

I remember this response after Donald and Charlie's first few interviews.

Take your point but SD and CM were playing to the cheap seats with crafted sound bites. And most of us bought it out of hope and despair!

KLD has coolly and calmly set out his plans and not shyed away from telling a few home truths. Very different in tone from SD and CM.

Still has to deliver though of course.
