LGBT+ awareness month

Took both knees.

Brilliant, stealing that.
Why do we have to be aware of other people's predilections?

Will their be a BTW awareness initiative? Do we have to raise awareness of people who like putting crisps in sandwiches? Highlight the fact that some people put their ketchup in the fridge?
Tired of constantly being told of what I'm obliged to give a fuck about.

I think it's mainly because people who put crisps in their sarnies and people who keep ketchup in the fridge aren't discriminated against, beaten up, verbally abused, treat as abnormal, told there's something wrong with them etc etc

Maybe in other countries, perhaps. I think we're fairly tolerant over here. We could focus on the ones that still criminalise it and throw folk off buildings rather than lecture people that are fine with it anyway.

I'd argue that "fairly tolerant" isn't enough and the fact that you've trivialised the matter by comparing it to ketchup in the fridge and crisps proves that a lot of work still needs to be done.

are you really in a position to say that everyone is fine with it?

Do you think two girls walking down the road holding hands arent subjected to snide remarks?

Most people might be "ok" with it but most gay people I know myself included don't show outward signs of affection towards our partners in public because there's always going to be someone there who will have something to say

You dont have to deal with that, why should I ?

Been told to "get a room" or similar loads of times.

Never been threatened with violence or the like obviously.

A lesbian couple I know always have pissed up wankers telling them to kiss etc so they tend to stick to gay bars.

You raise a good point.

Don’t know if this is a good comment or a crap one but how can we have a LGBTQ+ Awareness Month unless it explicitly mentions what the + includes.

As a straight bloke I do wonder if any LGB members take issue/are embarrassed by some of the extremists in the trans arena calling anyone and everyone transphobic just for asking questions or being confused by what’s what.

Perhaps this is a good month to raise your awareness of the +.
