Heating Engineer recommendations

Does anyone know a reliable heating engineer who would look at an Ideal Isar HE30 boiler? It's my dad's and the hot water to his shower is oscillating between hot and cold when turned on. He's partially sighted and has trouble sourcing this kind of thing. I've read online that they are the worst boilers around...

Ray Trueman washington knows his onions.

...or low water pressure ?
Could be either but I'm garbage with these things. The water is a decent pressure but comes through hot then goes tepid and back again. Rang one guy about it who immediately said my Dad is wasting money getting it repaired but I'm hoping it can be for a reasonable price.

I had an issue with a hot/cold shower. I was due to me turning my stopcock to close it and then opening it not quite as 'open' it was previously. The flow of water through the shower was lower so it heated the water that came through, stopped heating, until cold water out, started heating again and repeat. I'm sure an expert could explain it better than me.

It would be worth trying increasing the flow slightly to see if it makes any difference.

Sounds like the Secondary heat exchanger’s gunked up. Shouldn’t be a massively expensive job to clean out or replace if it’s knacked. Quick check indicates 70 odd quid for a new one so take that into account 👍

Usually it’s the secondary heat exchanger in the boiler, the water coming through is restricted so gets too hot, the high limit stats kick in and switch the burners off until it cools down ergo the hot and cold cycle.

I noticed that the water setting on the boiler was at maximum temperature so will turn this down a bit to see if this helps. Thanks all for the suggestions, good advice.

You know more about it than me. I thought I'd post my experience in case it's the same, it works and the chaps save some dough.

If its just the shower and not other hot water outlets its most likely the mixer valve to the shower.

What my friend says check the hot water at the tap first, if it’s consistently hot then the problem lies with the shower mixer valve, I changed one this afternoon for the same problem

Good timing for the thread. My boiler has literally just tripped the electrics and will not come back on. Loose connection or water inside somewhere? I literally have zero knowledge with anything to do with water/gas/electric.

It did go into fault mode last week but given the wind direction, I figured it was a frozen flue and 15 mins with the hairdryer seemed to do the trick and it came back on and seemed fine.

Anyone have an idea to what it could be?

Edit. If it helps it's a well maintained Bosch Worcester boiler. Only problem I have had in the past has been with the relay, but I get it impression that a common problem with my model.

Failing pump is the principal cause of tripping out the electrics, it could be caused by the pump being worn out or damp getting in the electrics on it.
