F1 2021

Great news if the Portuguese GP gets the formal go ahead, I haven't seen any confirmation on Autosport or F1 yet.

With the sprint race idea and the associated wear and year, they'll presumably say that it's replacing qualifying and they're having short practice sessions, so that evens it out. The concern would be the added risk of crashing. In the current quali format they're all trying to get as far away from one another as possible, in a race it would be just the opposite. As you say, if someone shunts a gearbox, does it affect the allocation? What about if someone does an Albon and takes off someone's front wheel, do they get an extra set of tyres?

I like the idea of the sprints in principle, but it brings in so many variables that would need a significant adjustment of the rules to allow for.
Race gearbox is only used in FP3 onwards so that would need looking at surely?

This news just got me thinking, did any more ever come out about that mystery crash he had back in testing in 2015. I remember seeing it was a nothing accident really and he ended up getting taken to intensive care for a couple of nights.

Really odd, that. I'm sure we never heard the real story

wasnt that the same time as kers was being introduced? so there was a suggestion he'd been electrocuted before he hit the wall? ie. the car made him crash? or something or other... any ideas who the mclaren reserve was that season?

I would not wish this on anyone and I hope he makes a quick recovery. I am not an Alonso fan and thought his behaviour over the “Gee Pee twoo” engine stuff was reprehensible. Plus he’s too old and he is filling a seat a younger more exciting driver could fill.

Tin hat on, I hope?

Team confirmed he has had surgery on a broken jaw but expect him to be fit for pre season testing. Testing is 4 weeks today which seems a bit of a push in him being 100% healed for

the way he went on at mclaren the first time round is worse than the honda engine stuff, and i agree also that imho he's too old - however he's a double world champion and a "name" so can see why he'd get the drive (also the renault young driver program was dealt a blow with the death of hubert).

alonso, if nothing else will be seen as an enigma... coulda\woulda\shoulda been so much more, i think he's a better 'race driver' than seb and feel the 4 vrs 2 world championship wins reflects more on the poor decisions he took away from the track.

who do alpine\renault have waiting in the wings?

I still don't get the fuss over Alonso. For a double world champion he doesn't seem to stand out for me.
replace vettel with alonso and quadruple for double and its the same discussion... but that's six times both were the best drivers in the world, so they've done something right, they're both still better than grosjean and i suspect both will be quicker than their respective younger team-mates this season. unless vettels ferrari wilderness years really have messed with him.

Great driver, but does carry an awful lot of 'baggage' around with him.
