Golf 2021

I agree about the official being shockingly weak, he should have asked to check the video to see if the ball did bounce, which would have cleared the whole thing up straight away. Reed knew what he was doing and played the official like a fiddle.
I don’t think the refs can use tv coverage now. I’m sure a ruling came out about it years back due to all the call outs that were happening and there being a level playing field with those without the cameras following them as the is only a max of 4 crews out there I think.

whilst I don’t like it, the pros are very good at using the rules. He was clever in this by claiming he didn’t see it and getting someone to confirm it didn’t bounce. Whether he did see it or not is just a matter of opinions not fact. I remember Phil mickelson at Mexico a few years back and he was dropping from sprinkler heads in bushes and getting drops where a fan had claimed someone had picked his ball up despite mickelson having no idea where it had gone yet nobody battered an eyelid. Reed, having a bit of previous, has blown this out of proportion by comparison in my view.

Golf analyst in the Racing Post writes......

"Whether every player would react the same way after the round is debatable - if Reed demanded a two-shot penalty having seen the TV evidence, the Tour would likely yield to such a request. The grandest gesture of all - and one that would do wonders for Reed's reputation - would be to disqualify himself from the tournament. "

Is that so? I was sure they had used it recently for certain rulings, particularly regarding embedded balls. It would certainly make the decision more understandable.

Reed's previous is certainly the reason for the outcry though, people know there have been multiple occurrences of cheating from him that have either gone unpunished or simply been overlooked, so assume he's doing it again.

If every you wanted to find someone who hated reed, talk to the reporter who wrote that 😂😂😂

You got me searching now 😂

It’s restricted. Reed firmly fits into this where he claims he didn’t see it bounce.

It's actually quite ambiguous in parts of that statement:

A statement said that the use of video would be restricted when video reveals evidence that could not reasonably be detected with a naked eye and if rules officials believed players made a "reasonable judgement" to determine a specific location when taking a drop or replacing a ball on the green.

"So long as the player does what can reasonably be expected under the circumstances to make an accurate determination, the player’s reasonable judgement will be accepted, even if later shown to be inaccurate by the use of video evidence," a joint statement by the R&A and USGA said.

The first paragraph would suggest he should get a retrospective 2 shot penalty for improving his lie when reviewed on video, but the 2nd suggests nothing should be done. Nothing like keeping it vague.

That bollocks.why should he. As said everyone ‘officially’ involved has said he’s done nowt wrong ffs

An integrity issue maybe at best. But he’s hated by everyone and gives zero fucks. Didn’t he drop most of his family in a dispute with his missus.

Blokes got metal for skin. He’ll probably end up growing on me if the hyperboil continues.

I like his attitue me. Same article in Racing Post states.....

" Patrick Reed has a notoriously thick skin. He has happily antagonized European supporters during Ryder Cups, he has appeared to cruise through previous rules controversies without batting an eyelid, and he even held it together when aggressive Australians were abusing him from close-range in the last Presidents Cup. His caddie lost his temper and reacted, but Reed shrugged it off. "

It’ll take some doing but he may grow on me one day. But aye he can take it like 😃

They should all look shit hot after this like. Throston was fecked the day before lockdown!

Had an email from Boldon during the week saying someone has poured what appears to be diesel on half a dozen of the greens, seems to be the greens around the perimeter of the course. Cold weather means no real new growth so when they do reopen the course there’s going to be some pretty pissed off people.

Going on about the Reed drop again on sky sports. 😂
f***ing hell. After hat putt I’ve realised I do dislike Reed as much as ever. 😡😡😡. 😃
It's getting frustrating hearing about it now that the round is actually under way. Everyone has their opinion and nothing is going to change, wish they would just show us the coverage and hopefully someone other than Reed wins.

Outstanding golf from Reed, absolutely ice-cold when in contention.

Shame he’s a miserable cheat, because he’s a fantastic player. Type of around-the green genius everyone would love if he wasn’t a tit.

Anyonr see the craic with his Twitter, and his (or his wife’s) burner account?

The Twitter stuff was funny, at least it was when people posted screenshots, I can't see it as he's blocked me.

He is frustrating to watch, he's got so much talent he doesn't need to cheat, yet this stuff will always follow him around now.
