Saint Maximum (sic.) was becoming out of favour anyway. His attitude was wrong and he was out of form after signing his new contract. Shearer (Bruce's mate) said he had been off since the new deal. Not something other Newcastle watchers picked up on, so I think that line from Shearer was via Bruce. He was subbed off vs Everton, poor against Southampton, subbed against Chelsea. Got loads of criticism in the defeats against Chelsea and Southampton.

I was watching your game against Leeds before we played Ipswich and Saint Maximin seemed to have a massive impact on the game when he came on, he looked very threatening.

He did. But Bruce was washing his hands of him before he got covid.
The thing with ASM is that he looks dangerous and carries the ball well and with speed, but the rest of the team aren't always alive to it.
And when he has an off day, which is often, there's nothing else there. He can't do it all, which is how his return has been built up.
He's decent but inconsistent, so if Bruce is putting all the eggs in one basket he's gonna be disappointed. A good team with good organisation will stop ASM most of the time.

Wonder what shite his press conference will throw up today.

1. His total lack of specifics "we had 3 or 4 injured" "we had 7 or 8 shots on target" "its hard when you're missing 4 5 or 6 players"
2. Everton will be tough but we'll give it a go
3. Yeah I'm aware of how the fans feel, i understand it, i am one myself but howpefully they can see the positives and take encouragement from the second half against Leeds who are always a threat when you get high up the pitch
4. We are trying to change things in regards to how we play and slowly we are getting there, now we've got 1 or 2 players fit and available again
5. No i won't walk away, is my job safe? I'm not the man to ask, I'll keep working hard, trying my best, and hopefully that's good enough.
6. It's hard when you're on a difficult run but we'll do our best
7. Graham Jones is coming in to hopefully help give us a fresh perspective on things and hopefully improve the team, we've had a difficult year so it'll hopefully be a positive addition

I reckon Sheff Utds win at Old Trafford might get a mention.
