Vegan Thread

Cheers, I’ve got chilli flakes but it looked like a powder she used. Wasn’t sure if it was cayenne or chilli, they’ve got quite different tastes.

The best bit about the video (apart from her excellent use of the English Language) was the way she fried the tofu for 8 minutes each side. I'd never done that before. It is how I do it now if I want a crispy skin on the tofu. Then use it like a fried chicken in a recipe.
It seems to really offend meat eaters for some reason, no one is taking their meat away so I’m not sure what their issue is.
One of the benefits of being a vegan.

I haven't had a good debate about milk is murder yet. Bloody pandemic.

Do other vegans on here take any supplements? I take B12 and Omega 3. Get my bloods tested every few months - all spot on. Iron, diabetes levels, cholesterol, CRP etc.
B12 is essential and most meat eaters need it as well as deficency is across the popuation. I'm taking high doeses of vit d, vit c, zinc and K2 but more as they are meant to boost immune system and was more based off Joe Rogan/Rhonda Patrick.

Would recommend NutritionFacts.org | The Latest in Nutrition Related Research yes he is plant based but all his videos etc are research based and the how not to die and how not to diet books are excellent.

35 years and counting. I was reading the best meal thread and was going to post on there but didn’t. Locals vegan food is usually delicious. In Malaysia I loved roti and chana daal (making sure no butter in the roti) in locals places that cost about 50p. In hcmc I much prefer eating in the com chay (vegan rice) places than the fancy vegan restaurants. Falafel is one of my favourite foods although I’ve only had it in Lebanese restaurants in other countries never actually in the Lebanon. Some of the ones in north London are amazing. My blog has quite a bit on it about vegan food in different countries.
This summer in Sapa I had a really fancy vegan meal that the chef created for me (friend of a friend) but I still prefer local vegan food.

... if cows produce milk naturally then what's the problem with us making butter and cheese out of it?
They only produce milk "naturally" after someone or something has wanked off a bull then a farmer puts his hand up a cows arse to open her pelvis and then uses a massive syringe to insert the bulls semen into the cow and then her baby is taken away after a couple of days to be slaughtered for veal or to be used in the next batch of dairy cows.

All completely natural...

Couldn't be arsed personally, it seems too limiting. Would probably just live on chips.

I think it's funny how much bile veggies and vegans get from some people.
They certainly do, and for the most part it’s jumped up uneducated nonsense.
Where do you get your protein from?
I dunno.

Listened to an interesting interview today from a bloke who produces chicken from a single cell. No animals are killed obviously. He aims to get the cost down lower than cheap chicken in five years. If so I can se4e this changing the world.

Sold in Singapore. Be a total gamer changer for the world if it works.

This is why I chose vegan over veggie.

I really believe in a few generations time our world will be looked at like we were crazy greedy bastards ruining the planet and enslaving billions of animals. There will be a shift in the narrative of the world. Some of the stuff we are allowed to consume to massive excess and the damage done providing that stuff is extraordinary.

Has to be the future. Lab raised and ‘fake’ meats are definitely worth investing in to save the planet.

That’s without considering the vast amounts of water all of this consumes as well, it’s a crazy system really.

Bill Gates seems to think so he a big investor in one of the main ones. Once the costs come down to comparable with meat it will be down to whether the big meat producing food companies move over I not even sure will be a customer choice if its gets to where taste and texture is the same.

Couple of good podcasts on labmeat etc

Within the next few decades, I think farming of animals will be decimated, and become a niche thing (high end, gourmet), at least in the developed world. As you say, the tipping point will be when the lab-produced meat becomes cheaper than that produced on the hoof (or trotter, or chicken foot). If it tastes the same, but is cheaper, that'll drive the market.

Apart from animal welfare, would have a massive impact on the environment. Just have to hope it can be done at scale and cheap for the developing world, one as a way of improving diet but also two, because intensive farming of animals and eating animals in the civilised/wild boundary is what made swine flu and covid-19. Sooner humanity gets away from that the better.
