I know I'll be in the minority here but I'm actually going to miss the thud, thud thud of the BDO version this year. For all of its (many) faults it was almost refreshing to watch players that were satisfied with their level and weren't drawn in by the glitz of the PDC.

Going to miss seeing Gary Robson bottle every match dart, Martin Phillips taking part in his 200th World Champs, Jackie's hat and the whole workingmen's club type atmosphere that it creates. Plus this forum isn't the same without a meat draw reference.

Hankey and Adams

Did have its very own unique charm............the PDC has chipped away at the BDO for last 25+ years and cracked it..........it was inevitable really.

Very much like After The Lord Mayor's Show compared to the PDC but entertaining and ridiculous in equal measures. A sad demise but as you say, inevitable.
Ridiculous decision to hold it at the O2
The BDO make the EFL look ultra professional

BDO was ahead of the game when it came to social distancing though ;)

I’d feel massively aggrieved if I was Chisnall, gets to semi’s, completely destroys MVG along the way, ranked 6 in the world but still isn’t deemed one of the 10 for the PL.

Bizarre IMO.
Hasn't won a major and his last pdc title for Danish Open in 2019. Needs to win a major to be taken seriously.

I'm definitely in the minority in enjoying the BDO Worlds more than the PDC equivalent. Yeah the standard and production may not be the same but the majority of time you'd get an exciting, close game. I think is was the 2018 tournament where every one of the quarter finals finished 5-4!

Wasn't much in it quality wise between the two codes up and till Barney's switch back in 2006 (Taylor Aside)

Cash dried up with the TV coverage.................there should have been some kind of deal between the two codes 20 years back.
As I recall, the PDC tried reaching out to the BDO a few times and got told to shove it. The BDOs demise is sad, and it does make you worry for grass roots darts in the UK, but you reap what you sow in their case.

Barry Hearn made a fictitious one million bid years back......more likely it was a publicity stunt.
The writing was on the wall after Barney switched imo and there was too much bad blood for any form of cooperation.....especially under Olly Crofts watch.

As others, I think an amalgamation would have been perfect a few years ago but the PDC doesn't need BDO as much as vice versa
It's the players in the bdo who will suffer

Used to go to the Lakeside back in the day, it was a cracking day/night out !, I worked with Colin Monk , who played in the bdo then , so made it more interesting ...., funnily enough, they did used to have a raffle, but no meat draw.... ;)

It is a shame what's happened to the bdo, but I dont think they've helped themselves over the years.

Yeah, I agree with that. I think what's happening to the BDO is bad for darts in the short and long term, but the BDO constantly looking down it's nose at the PDC has finally come home to roost.

Used to love watching the BDO, it made me think I could be a world champ

👍 ...the thing is most of the pdc tournament winners have come through the bdo system, something that the pdc/Sky don't like to mention ;)

The quality was excellent, even well into the 2000s.
Even now you have recent ex BDO players Bunting and Duzza doing well in the PDC.

To be fair, at least the PDC count BDO world titles, like Barney being a five time world champ - BDO always made a big fuss that their title was the "only' World Championship Title, and ignored the PDC.
I agree with the gist of what you're saying though, the majority of high end PDC players come/came through the BDO
