That includes Rafas spell in the championship you plank. His record is 1.19 per game in the prem well behind Bruce. He also had a forward line of Perez and rondon for an entire season when Bruce had Joelinton who arrived one day after his arrival. Bruce is big standard but it shows what a big standard job the previous bloke did
It helps if you specify that then, 'you plank'. Your PPG record also includes the 10 games he had at the start of his time there, but this is nothing to do with Benitez. His record speaks for itself. He's not the leading manager he once was, but he's won enough earlier in his career to far eclipse Bruce.

That'll also be the same Joelinton he said he was 'delighted' to have? The one that cost £40m. Even though he's still not managed more goals than Rondon, who they picked up on loan and could have had for a quarter of the price. Bruce's side are god awful, and I wouldn't wish him on my worst enemy.

What has Benitez's earlier career got to do with his style.of football and league placings at Newcastle? Its utterly irrelevant.

I can’t stand Bruce he’s a f***ing charlatan. He left us with a squad full of shite, spent bucket loads at villa and couldn’t get them up and it’s astounding to me how on earth he’s got the mags 18 points. I mean they’re on telly every feckin week so I’ve seen them a fair bit recently and it doesn’t matter who they are playing they get outplayed every single week. Somehow they pick up points. It can’t last surely. But he’s got all his mates in the media rooting for him - remember how annoying it was when he used to do the rounds and spout his Geordie roots and got them to tenth bullshit when we sacked him. Pyatt like a dropped pasty anarl. Just a mess of a man

Wow, not sure what to make of this. I'm sure Danny Murphy watches Newcastle regularly. That squad is not a terrible squad. Shelvey is a waster, but the likes of Wilson, Fraser, Almiron are good attackers and should have them comfortably close to the top half.

As for him having more PPG than Benitez, you might want to consult below because that's not true. Bruce is an awful manager, he was solid at the SOL, but that was touching on a decade ago. Talk to Villa fans, they'll tell you what he's like. The football is shite, the responsibility is never his. I don't care if he's a nice bloke, I can separate job performance from likability.

We know Bruce is shite. Awful manager who somehow gets PL jobs.

Better than Benitez though.

Bruce is spaffing results, exactly the same as Rafa did, using mainly the same group and the same tactics.

One is God on Tyneside, the other is hated.

The mental gymnastics used by Mags to justify this stance genuinely baffles me...

No, come on.

I get it, they made a messiah of him on Tyneside, but the notion a Champions League, La Liga winning, manager is worse than Steve Bruce who has only ever got a few teams promoted (never as champions might I add) is ludicrous. Like, sorry, I get a differnce of opinion, but he's light years ahead of Bruce in every conceivable way.

Nailed it.

I have to be honest, comparisons between the two at Newcastle are irrelevant regardless.

Bruce started the game with two strikers that cost £60m quid, but would we say pound for pound they're better than what Perez and Rondon produced for them? I could say he's had boat loads more to spend than Benitez in the Premier League. You could say he's had less pedigreed options. The simple fact is Bruce said he'd bring expansive football at Newcastle and he hasn't.

I don't think he's produced results any better than Benitez nor has the football improved, but they've indulged him with big money players. I think if you put out the cost of Benitez's best XI and Bruce's the latter would cost more, even if you pulled Joelinton out. Bruce is outdated and the fact anyone here defends him after he threw the fans under a bus is beyond me.

Of course his first 10 games had everything to do with Benitez. There have been many a manager saved clubs from much worse positions than that and they haven’t had anywhere near as good players at their disposal to do so. It was Beneitez who turned up at Villa who had lost 9 in a row without scoring a goal and played for a draw. No one is arguing that Bruce’s team is god awful only that he has managed to produce better results in both league and cup than the previous manager and doesn’t have a relegation on his CV for NUFC like Benitez.

Also with regards to Joelinton how much Nufc decided to pay for him has nothing to do with Bruce and of course he’s going to say he’s delighted to have him because he’s got to work with him. It still comes down to who would you rather have at your disposal a fron two of Rondon and Perez or Joelinton on his own. Also worth mentioning that Benitez spent 50 mill on Muto, Murphy and Almiron.

@Carrick18 - In an 11 aside line up made from mags, Fulham, West Brom and shef Utd - how many mags would get in the team?

You divvint understand. An incompetent MP voted in by an incompetent electorate many of whom struggle to read and write, just as well they only have to put an X in a box. MP mouths off about things she thinks will appeal to great unwashed rather than real issues like unemployment, child poverty, Covid, Brexit or illegal economic migrants.
