The London thread

😂
The Church owned by a few Putney brits started off in The Greyhound on Fulham Rd in the early 80s. Late 80s after the locals got sick the original Church owners moved to Willesden or Harlesden (white lion?) that was the last time I went. At the same time a rival church opened up in KX up York Way, I nivver went to that one. I can’t remember the pub name but can picture it in me heed. The KX one being Aussie iirc owned and more Central won out ower Willesden. When KX got gentrified I believe it moved south of the river, nivver went as I was nivver THAT desperate for a wet t shirt ogle.
I’d imagine a few have tried to recreate the format but all day opening took away the magic. I’ve heard none were ever as good as the first at The Greyhound as it was the only game in town at the time. Loada Sunderland builders were lodging upstairs in the greyhound the times I went in there.
Good old Duncan. The mental jock who ran the Greyhound at the time. It was mad in that back room on Sunday lunchtime. The Aussies loved it.

I never went to the one in Putney even though I was living in Roehampton at the time. The one in KX was in an old warehouse when I used to go there.
I always thought the original in Putney was started off in a disused church, that's where it got its name from?

Yeah but pubs are not just about the beer?
Nor is CAMRAs What Pub site! It advises what beers are available if Real Ale or just says 'No Real Ale available'.

It then advises whether it does food, has a telly, child friendly, dog friendly, customer friendly!, opening hours, bar set ups, if it has a garden, WiFi, pub games and smoking area! Also throws in what the ambiance and interior is like just for good measure! No puerile comments about the barmaid giving them a funny look or being refused service just because they were incapable of standing to wade through either ......

Don't sell yourselves short lasses and lads, ask @Roger for your own subforum. I'm sure if you try hard you'll think of more than one London-based topic to discuss.

It'll be better funded and more people with higher paid jobs will go there.

Ah well, I've wasted 99p.

Possibly. News to me! I know the owners were from Putney originally. I wasn’t aware of it being anywhere before The Greyhound.

With the city (finally) opening again. Can anyone recommend some ‘must visit’ boozers, and also maybe some decent places to visit/ things to do? Obviously I know the obvious places/ can read the various blogs and internet lists - but anywhere a bit less known would be fantastic.

Ever the optimist (football aside) I’m starting to believe this summer, without tourists; might be pretty special to be honest.
