I was told that Home Guard soldiers used to do parades and marching in the carpark of what was once the Prospect Hotel(Now LIDL), on Durham Road?

If you Google for ROC bunkers Sunderland. These were used as look out points and there were a few dotted about, generally at places with a good vantage point. The one at Hastings Hill had been filled in, but there are some still around.
These were used by the home guard if memory serves.

Think theres one in the field on the right as you head towards Durham on the A690, just after the Doxy roundabout.?
Also there used to be loads in the forests around sunderland airport, remember playing in them as a kid, obs before Nissan

That’s just a Pillbox. A ROC post is fully underground with only man access and ventilation structures above ground.

There’s one which hasn’t been demolished near Easington apparently.
