Football Manager 2021

Only spent £2m, mainly signed free transfers second season. Actually brought in nearly double.

I also kept Billy Gilmour + Facundo Pellestri on loan + signed Jack Whatmough from Portsmouth for 250k but they are tagged on the end of last seasons transfers.

End of October, 15 games in and I'm walking the championship. Played 15, won 12, drawn 1, lost 2. Not sure if I've stumbled across a ridiculous tactic but this years game seems a lot easier than normal.

My summer transfers -

My first season in the championship has been surprisingly easy as well, so far.
The summer transfer window has just closed and i'm joint top after 7 games - W5 D2 L0.

I've somehow stretched out my original £3.5m budget and spent £9m in total but only brought in £1.4m in sales?

In:

Harry Pickering - £3.3m
Phillipe Sandler - £1.8m
Sullay Kaikai - £525k
Jan Paul van Hecke - £550k
Arnau Puigmal - £400k
Luke McCowan - £350k
Christian Walton - £45k
Jason Cummings - free
Curtis Jones - loan
Will Vaulks - loan
Steven Sessegnon - loan
Andi Zeqiri - loan
George McEachran - loan

Sold/released: O'Nien, Wright, Feeney, Scowen, McFadzean.

Out on loan: Embleton, Maguire, Xhemaji.

Usual team:

Wildsmith
Sessegnon - Sandler/Willis - Burke - Pickering
Dobson
Power/Puigmal - Vaulks
Zeqiri -----------------------------------Jones
Cummings
Subs from: Walton, van Hecke, Obita, Neil, McEachran, Kaikai, McCowan, Gooch, O'Brien, Hume.
Burge, Flanagan & Leadbitter also still hanging around because i can't shift them.
Is the 4 1 2 2 1 still rocking? Having two inside forwards and attacking fullbacks worked for me last year!

It is for me, my set up.

GK (De)
WB (Su) - CD (De) - BDP (De) - WB (Su)
DLP (Su)
MEZ (Su) - BBM (Su)
IF (At) ----------------------------IW (At)
AF (At)

My same formations and roles! Seems to work.

December 1st release date for the Xbox versions. I’m intrigued what it’ll be like on the Series S using the controller. Day one purchase definitely though.
Used to be that the left thumbstick would be used to control a cursor and the d-pad would snap the cursor to whatever was in the direction you pressed. It worked quite well.

I'm interested to see what the loading will be like if you have 10 active leagues.

I thought the menu navigation with a pad on console was shite when they tried it before

If you've got a moderately powered laptop/computer then you'd be better off sticking to that over console for FM imo.

Xbox Series X/S regularly claim that the loading times on games are virtually non-existent so I wouldn’t expect that to be different for this. That being said I rarely choose 10 nations in a career anyways.

5 star graphics too - although that will just be for the 3D match engine I’m guessing? It’s like a next gen LMA Manager  (sure I’ve mentioned that before)

The loading times are over within seconds and most games aren't fully optimised yet but a 10 league FM save should be a good test of them!

Must be the match engine, although don't know how that would differ between the versions as it's never been particularly advanced.

BTW from September: "We reached out to Codemasters to ask them and received the dreaded “No plans at this time” response when it came to producing a new football management game."

I have done that in the past but always just preferred either FM, CM or LMA on console, then I can sit on the couch and play on the tv.

Don’t think Codemasters will bother with LMA if football manager continues to be developed for consoles as well as the PC to be honest.

They were always competing with each other initially and then both stopped about the same time (2007 or so), so not sure the presence of FM would bother them. Might have a chance of a reboot if FM does well on Xbox.

Can’t see it personally but we’ll see.

Just wrong in so many ways
Promotion in the bag on 94pts with 6 games remaining given a £5.89mtransfer budget 🥳

Some of the contract negotiations are still annoying on this version.

I tried to sign a few premier league players that were transfer listed and available fairly cheaply but couldn't agree the wages. They then sign for another team a week later on much smaller wages than I was offering.

Josh Onomah was one. Wouldn't accept £25-30k a week and then signs for a small French club for £12k

Finished top of the Championship with 108 points. Piece of piss.

Got £35m for the Prem. Have signed loads of City, Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea + Arsenal youngsters my scouts have recommended that have been released as my youth intake has been shite. Pads out the youth levels as well as the intake has been shite bar 2 players.

Bookies have me 700/1 for the Prem, and predicted to finish dead last.

I've signed -

Yedlin - Free Transfer
Bailly - Free Transfer
Daniel Podence - £9m
Pontus Dahlberg - £13m
Silas Wamangituka - £9m
Billy Gilmour - Another season long loan
Facundo Pellistri - as above
Emile Smith-Rowe - as above

Nowt major on the way out, have recouped about £10m in peddling O'Nien, Willis and a few of my newer signings who won't make the step up. In the strangest move of the summer I sold Lee Burge to Chelsea for £300k.

I did sign Joe Haigh (Chelsea youth player) on a free at the end of last season. Sat in my reserves for a season and managed to get £6m for him from Bournemouth. This is why I've gone heavy on briging the young lads in.

Just started up on mine. In the first season on mine I brought in a Polish free transfer goalkeeper. Remi Matthews ended up kicking up a huge fuss over it which resulted in him being transfer listed. Saying that mind, he sort of got the last laugh as Chelsea ended up buying him for 100k and he is now sat in their reserves on 30k a week. What a random start to the season.

Any suggestions on must-do's to purchase right at the beginning?

Jason Cummings is the best player you can sign on a SAFC save. Got him for 350k in League One. Playing him as a lone striker (AF - attack) in a 4231 Wide and he's been incredible.

I've already brought in Bendtner who to be honest is forming a brilliant partnership with O'Brien, Could do with bringing Cummings in mind, but I'll need to offload Wyke, Graham or Grigg but noone seems interested in any of them (just like IRL). Did you find any of them 3 do well?

First thing I did when I started was moving all 3 of them to the U23s, put them on the transfer list, took them out of the squad so the wages didn't count towards the cap + offered them out for free until they left or their contract expired.
