Florida

Sounds ideal. We enjoyed staying in the villa, didn't really do loads, but the kids enjoyed the pool and shopping in American shops etc. Then we did the full on Disney thing afterwards. In hindsight the opposite way might have been better, but Disney was expensive and busy due to the marathon.
Won't go back in August mind. Never again. Weather is very off putting. Previous times it's been mid Oct, only seen rain once in 3 trips.

January was absolutely amazing weather for the parks. I've been in November before and that was great too. Went in June year before last and it was too hot really.
That new Star Wars ride at HS was fantastic, hard to get on, but great.

I can cope with the heat, just, but the storms are mental. It's not my idea of fun walking about in a f***ing poncho at 40 c like a boil in the bag turkey.

we did August last year and the heat killed me, the storms were canny though. May our favourite time, weather good and very little rain

An abiding memory was when I was jet skiing off Clearwater - my 10 year old daughter on the back and my 8 year old son up front with me .

Suddenly a manta ray surfaced right next to us and rode our wave for about a minute. A wonderful moment the kids still talk about to this day.

If you do both and want to visit Disney while staying off-site, you have to do the onsite part first as the ticket isn't activated until you check in. It's probably the better way anyway.

They charge about £20 per night to park now if you have a car and stay on site. The fee came in this year.

It's a bit of a piss take really, but you don't really need a car if staying onsite anyway and the can just pick one up for the day of you want to go to the outlets etc.

The Skyline is brilliant if you're staying at CBR, Riviera or that cartoon themed one.

we’ve never had a car onsite, always found the transport fine. Not tried CBR, been Port Orleans last few times but the Skyline sounds good

Alright if you miss them with a pint in ya hand... Epcot is best for that, love it.

We were split between por and CBR, glad we went for CBR because of the skyline, it was a game changer. Barely had to use the bus, other than for MK and then we would hop to Epcot on the way back.

I was there in January 2018, there were actual icicles hanging off the icicles on the signs at harry potter world. The people working there said they had never had it so cold.

We had a few chilly mornings early January, but it was warm most of the time. Maybe two days when I wore a jacket early on in the morning by the end of January.

It was freezing when we got back to Gatwick mind.

I think we'll be giving it a miss in 2021, unless there is a miracle vaccine.

Ordinarily wouldn't have booked flights. But have been loading up on Avios for a few years now and we had a voucher (Amex) for a free flight when book one flight with Avios points. Voucher was extended for 6 months but would only take it to Feb 21 which is no good to us. Decided we might as well just book and see what happens. IF its still a no go then cancel the flight and get the points back, but not sure whether the voucher would be extended any further.

I got married at the Sand Pearl at Clearwater Beach and now live 20 minutes from there. We were there last week the day before the temps ‘broke’ (traditional ten degree drop usually mid October, came a bit late this year).
All you people moaning about the heat - what a bunch of poofs. This is how we lost the empire!

It really depends what you want out of it. I know one family who go regularly. One year they stay at Disney and only go to the disney parks, then the next they stay at universal and only do universal parks. We have been 3 times in 13 years so we tend to cram as much in as possible. Therefore we found for us the best way was to hire a villa and rent a car. The first time we went we pre-uber. We stayed on international drive so had to get a bus to seaworld, then another from seaworld to disney transport hub, then bus to the park. Trashing for just us, I'd had to have had kids in tow. The next 2 times we had a villa a rental car, it changed it completely. A private pool, your own cooking facilities etc. The 2nd time we went Uber was just starting up so I didn't drink very much, it's not that kind of holiday so I wasn't bothered. The third time Uber was everywhere, we could easily get an uber to disney springs to go for a meal and few drinks then get an uber back again. We still had the car for going to walmart, Busch Gardens etc.

The second time we went it was for our honeymoon, we did 3 days in New York, then down to florida where we did 2 days in a disney hotel and 12 days in a villa. After those 2 days in disney I was done. It was too much too often, I was sick of eating off paper plates with so many people. If you've never been and think you'd like it it'd suggest half on site and half villa, just to get a flavor of both. Unless it was one of the very expensive lodges in the Animal Kingdom resort, I doubt I'd stay in another Disney hotel.
I have kids though so different for me. Also the good restaurants are top notch

If you go October into November you get Halloween and Christmas themes, plus the weather was perfect at around 30 degrees with virtually no rain.

we’ve been once in October and halloween stuff was spot on. Either May or October for us, we just preferred May now kids are bit older. I don’t think i’d do August again, too many times things shutdown due to storms

Same ive only been in August once it was horrible far too hot and humid.

First couple times was October and it was fine. If there was rain it was in burts and then stopped and dried up pretty fast.
