Bruce Springsteen

Next tour I’m going abroad definitely. I’d look to fo either

Barcelona
Milan
Gothenburg

if and it’s a big if I can swing a US trip it would have to be either

NYC
Jersey
Philadelphia
Needless to say there's something special about a Jersey show. You should really try and do that if you can. Been to 4 and they've all been great, especially when Rosie (or Jersey Girl) comes out.

Aye Jersey is the ultimate mate. I’d say in the Met life, If that’s the best ?

What venues did you see him In mate ?

Twice at the old Giants Stadium (Rising, consecutive nights - amazing), once at the IZOD (Wrecking Ball - their first NJ show after Clarence passed, and Clarence's nephew played sax - not a dry eye), and once at MetLife (might have been Wrecking Ball as well - was about 10-11 years ago)

Obviously the dream is the Stone Pony (or Wonder Bar) in AP - I'm there quite often and he shows up quite often unannounced, but never when I'm there and I'm always reading about it after the fact!

The pony or anywhere on the shore would be the ultimate I just didn’t even bother due to the fact it would never happen for me.
If I was you though mate I’d just hang out there every night until he rocked up.

Haha, indeed. Those Rising shows the atmosphere was off the charts. It was almost a comeback album/tour of sorts and it was his first big NJ residence after 9/11. Cracking stuff.

Watching Letter to you the movie now.

Apologies for stating the obvious but wow, what a band man.

Each track somehow sounds even better here than it does on record.

Not a band on the planet remotely in their league.
This for sure.

As luck would have it, bought an iPhone this week and Apple TV, so was able to watch the film.

Fantastic to see them all in the studio. Springsteen’s use of words always resonates, had me in tears a few times, the album opener in particular, one of the best songs he’s ever wrote imo.

Absolutely stunning film, and the album is great too.

A privilege to see.

whilst his period between 75 and 85 were absolutely untouchable by anybody,
To me, the last 5 years have seen him at his most diverse yet. His autobiography, on broadway, Western Stars and now this are all very different forms of art but all superb in their own way.
His ability to tell stories via his spoken word monologues can be as heartbreaking as they are hilarious. I honestly feel I’ve learnt a lot as a person just by listening to him speak.
Not only is he a great singer, songwriter and performer. More importantly he’s a great man.

Is the film only on Apple?

The part of the movie featuring ‘I’ll see you in my dreams’ with the monologue and live performance was beautiful.
not a dry eye in the studio ( or my house ).

Listening to the new album now. Brilliant
Sadly I'm finding it very meh

My first impression was that rather than the E-Street band, it sounds like his other band from the early 90s. I don't think it's mixed very well, it sounds too smooth with all the rough edges taken off.

I found House of a Thousand Guitars cringeworthy.

I've read the lyrics for the whole record and the music doesn't do them justice. I'd be curious to hear a Nebraska style version of the whole thing.

Of course I'll be giving it more plays, maybe on shuffle as the order they are in feels awkward.

I know others won't agree and I may disagree with my opinion in six months time.

Agree with house of a thousand guitars, the albums weakest track. Reminds me of waitin on a sunny day, forced poppy shite.

With you on the sound mix too, everything sounds so much better on the filmed version.

I like the album but don’t love it.

Fair play mate. Think its his best album since Magic tbh but all about opinions! Just goes to show really, might be a grower for you. I thought it was instantly likeable.

Last Man Standing is a great song

Maybe it will grow, High Hopes didn't !

As with his more recent albums, the songs sound so much better live, rougher and less slick.

I think one observation I didn't make was that it sounds as if the songs were written and the E-Street band 'added later'. I'm not sure they add anything.

Like you, I enjoy Magic and thought Wrecking Ball was even better. Bearing in mind everyone's age and other factors, I fear this may be his last 'full band' album. I hope he has a dozen more good songs left in him.
