Penalty Shoot-Out: OSTER (missed) 0-0; Johnson 0-1; SMITH 1-1; Freedman 1-2; BABB 2-2; Shipperley 2-3; ROBINSON 3-3; Popovic 3-4; BREEN 4-4; Derry (saved) 4-4; McATEER (saved) 4-4; Routledge (saved) 4-4; WHITLEY (saved) 4-4; Hughes 4-5.

McCartney, Williams, Poom and Kyle never took one.

They had some arseholes in their team Palace like.

Derry, and them two fat pricks Hughes and Shipperly.

My first season with a season ticket so some fond memories although mainly of away trips. Remember Forest opening game being the hottest day I've ever experienced at football.

We missed a hatful of chances that day, we really should have won. I think we were on to beat some crap record of consecutive defeats and then we beat Preston away on Sky on a Saturday night game.

We almost certainly would have been hammered and in all honesty, I don’t think Europe would have been great either - we’d have probably lost in the qualifying round, and aye, ok, some lads on here would have had a pissed up continental away trip, but there’d have been about 20,000 fans at the SOL home game.

We would have drawn Panathanikos (sp) as Millwall did. Really dodgy away game and I think they only give you 1,000 away tickets. Yeah we'd have only pulled in about 20,000 in the home leg for them.

Another pointless season watching Sunderland for me. My over riding memory was 2 up at West Ham, losing 3-2. At 0-2 Whitley hitting the bar with a screamer. Then West Ham brought on Hutchison and Deane and a little striker who bagged two. Fucker.

Pretty dull season despite the cup run and play offs. The football was extremely basic, probably on par to what we see now. We did well to recover from the disaster of the previous season but not really a season to look back on fondly. Never looked like competing for automatic promotion and Palace went into the play offs with momentum after an excellent run under Dowie.

As well as the penalty miss, Jeff Whitley was sent off for a two footed lunge against Preston, got up and swung a punch at one of their players. Then played the next game and was sent off again and got a 5 game ban (suspensions didn't automatically kick in for the next game then, you had a week to appeal so was usually 2 games after). Then later scored his first goal sliding tackling someone on the line.

Thought Poom was class at the time but looking back some of the goals he conceded were soft. Still think he was fouled for the Palace goal.

Mick signed loads of loanees. Kevin Cooper played about 10 minutes. Colin Cooper played about 30 minutes spread over about 5 games. Alan Quinn was shite. Downing looked excellent though, was gutted when he was recalled.

My main memory of that season is listening to Crabbers and Rowell the moment Poom’s header hit the back of the net in the last minute at Pride Park.

Aye it was roasting. I was in Keswick that day, remember listening to it on the radio. Marlon Harewood scored for them iirc.

Was that the season of the Poom goal against Derby? Other than that it was a pretty awful season despite finishing 3rd, a 2-0 loss to Coventry on the opening day summed it up for me.

Kevin Cooper must go down as one of the most forgettable SAFC players of all time.

We really were carried by Arca that season, with Kyle improving as the season went on.
