Painting over previously wallpapered wall....

Ah, shit mate, nightmare.
I watched this vid on youtube, and followed what he done to strip it. Worked a treat....top layer came off easily enough, though seemed to come off better working from the ceiling downwards. Second layer, the backing paper, i sprayed a whole wall, went back to the beginning and everyone came off as a whole sheet. Some, i was only needing to peel for a couple of feet, then gravity took over and it rolled to the floor.
This vid method first.
Steam remover if needed second.
Sugar soap third.
Toupret fourth.

Stardrops cleaning solution.

thank me later.

would clean shit off a barn door in one wipe.

My Mam’s favourite cleaning substance. Floors, walls, skirting boards, carpets, you name it she cleaned it with Stardrops.
Surprising people still use wallpaper tbh

It’s come back into fashion as there are so many different effects that you can get with it. You can even get self adhesive wallpaper that strips off easily if you fancy a change.
As a person who does remodeling, I suggest that anyone with paper on the wall remove it completely. Painting over it is complete failure. It might survive a year, but will eventually peel. It always peels.

That’s nonsense. People have used woodchip and Anaglypta type wallpapers and painted over them for generations without them peeling off the wall. If the wallpaper is peeling it’s probably an issue with the wall, for example, dampness rather than an issue with the properly applied paper.

You lucky bastard.
5th consecutive room In the last 18 months I’ve had to do all four. I’m done for the day now.
Its an old bungalow, but who we bought it off had the whole lot replastered. Its the only room they had put paper up in, so has come off champion....i didn't even have to use a scraper. The paper was canny as well, thats why we've left 5 years. Done all the other rooms twice in that time.

I've probably painted over wallpaper the best part of a hundred times and can honestly say I've never experienced this peeling phenomena.
I've make a good living over tearing off peeled, painted over wallpaper. Most wallpaper is shit to begin with, typically put on by people who don't know what they are doing.

But, YMMV. Cheers, and good luck!

I think you and Dan are on crossed wires. Blown vinyl is completely different to vinyl paper. One you can paint over, the other dont even f***ing bother.
Light sand of the walls, then sugar soap before painting them
Think you have that the wrong way roound me owl mukka ;)
