Betfred

Yep, sadly whilst none of us are privy to what exactly happened, I fear that the legal backing of a blue chip company will scare the shit out of a working class gadgee who has (in comparison) not a pot to piss in. I'm sure I'd be intimidated, even if I knew I was in the right.

It’s a shame for the lad because he believes he genuinely won a life changing amount of money, but I can’t help but feel he will end up with a lot less than the £60k.

If he wins mind, all the online bookies will quickly be redrafting their T&Cs 😂

Iam no expert but blackjack imo would need stakes of tens of thousands of pounds to be anywhere near winning £1.7 million, did he have those funds? If no then Bedfred will easily prove it and piss it in court imo and the guy will have a canny legal bill.

He will have hit BJ plus won on side gages like perfect pairs and a bonus holdem game.

Tbf without knowing the actual game events its hard to call.

As a seasoned gambler (if he is) he will know whether he's chancing his arm.

There will be people who think the bookies should pay out but legally it has similarities to say an item worth £1000 bearing a 99p price tag unfortunately you will not get it for 99p if the retailer realises the error.

Very true. BetFred are welcome to use my services. I run a compliance consultancy business for the remote gambling sector :)

I'm not surprised, given that many have been isolated at home for the last few months, and have been either bored shitless, or desperate to correct their restricted income.

With crisis, comes profit for some. Sadly the bookmakers (despite whinging about the lack of live sports), will be lapping up the rewards of others vulnerabilities.

Enjoy your bonus mate, please don't choke on that Lambrusco.
I'm a responsible gaming analyst so I help people hopefully.
We are in need of another person to do the same job if anyone interested 🙂

I'm sure I read somewhere that betting companies don't have to pay out on any bet and you can sue them.
Apparently it's just a gentlemen's agreement and the only thing they lose is their trust amongst punters for non payment of a win.

Probably just an old wives tale.
Used to be the case, but they are now treated as proper contracts and can be taken to court.
Apols if seb like

Yes gambling debts are now legally enforceable. What this case will be decided on is whether the Ts and Cs related to malfunction are compliant with consumer law.

Get onto IBAS mate.

Already contacted IBAS - they replied " before we can consider the issue you will need to get a final response from Skybet. This would have been an email where Skybet confirmed that you had reached the end of their complaints process and gave you details for how to contact us. "

So SkyBet can just say they're still investigating my account while doing nowt and keeping my money.

Reading the limited evidence there, I do wonder how often a betting company voids a significant winning without substantive grounds and keeps it quiet by paying off the recipient, hoping that people will just accept there’s been a technical error and be happy with the dosh.

In my experience I know if a few occasions where this has been done under an NDA. But that's over years of working with the industry and is not currently allowed under UKGC guidance since Feb 2019.

The industry is far better and more transparent and fairer to the consumer than ever but I agree there is still much work to be done.

Initiate a charge back process?

Sorry edit I'm. Assuming your balance is greater than the sum of your deposits?

Might have already been said but it will
be linked to some sort of progressive jackpot if you get some sort of hand (perfect pairs type of thing).

the fact that 60k was offered suggests the punter has a case. If there was a malfunction, why offer anything at all ?
I think his point is he won, was notified he’d won and contacted by betfred to congratulate him. They say he only won because of a glitch. My take is the glitch isn’t his problem, he won. Who pays isn’t his problem either, between betfred and the developers.

Most bookies are shitbags.
SkyBet suspended my account on August 15 without tellimg me - I tried to logon and got a message to contact them.
The balance on my account was £1150 and they are witholding this from me.
They say that their Security Team is "investigating" my account but nobody from their Security Team has contacted me and they refuse to give me the telephone number of the Security Team so that I can contact them.
They refuse to tell me what they are investigating and say they can't give me a deadline for when the investigation will complete.
Ther advertising slogan is "SkyBet - Betting Better" - what a joke!!

Have you emailed the complaints @ skybet .com email address with a formal complaint? If not, do it, as they have to respond within 8 weeks. If you didn't do that then it won't be registered as a complaint and you won't be able to go to IBAS yet. If it's taken over 8 weeks after doing that then IBAS should look into it, but you might have to push them quite hard to do so.
Out of interest what did you win the money on?

If it is 'proven' in a court of law that there was indeed a software malfunction then it needs to be ascertained when that malfunction could have been present and all losing punters playing during that time period should be refunded. Of course that won't happen.

Unless of course its one of the software glitches that y'know only affects winning bets and not losing ones...

It's worth remembering this was Playtech not Betfred who refused the payout, Playtech were founded by this upstanding fella

In 1996 Sagi received a nine-month prison sentence after being convicted in Israel of bribery and fraud.

Not the first time Playtech have been involved in dodgy shit like this either

Sagi owned 41% of Joyland Casino who ripped off a player for about 2 million around 10 years ago from a Playtech jackpot win of over 4 million.

Not that I have much sympathy for Betfred but if Playtech are refusing to pay, then they have an obligation to shareholders not to just give £1.7 mil from their own pockets.

I would have a bit more sympathy if Betfred had removed the Playtech brand as a protest on behalf of the customer, but they haven't so hope they get hammered in court.

They'll probably be hiding behind an anti money laundering process. This so will probably allow them to not have any obligations to give even a vague insight in to the timescale

Playtech are bastards. They are one of the largest software providers in the industry but they've been complacent and most operators either build their own proprietary platforms (bet365, skybet) or use more agile challengers - SBtech, everymatrix, btobet etc.

Playtech is still used by the High Street retail names GVC (Ladbrokes Coral) and BetFred as they although have experience have taken ages to adapt their landbased knowhow to the demands of the online world.
