Betfred

Happens in banking, iirc folks are now prosecuted if they don't inform the banks, this fella imo was unlikely to have had the initial funds to win £1.7 million and all Betfred have to do is access his bank accounts to prove it.

But, you cant accept the bet and then complain that the funds may not available, if they win.

Can you?

And give up over £1.5 mil? Fuck that

I'd be nervous about losing the lot.

I've had mates who went to court full of confidence from the lawyers. One with a medical case and one with an employment case.
Both walked in with 100% confidence as the boffins said they had it won chapter and verse.
Both walked out with feck all.

Even if you win there will be an appeal and it could drag on for years and they have deep pockets.
They will be racking up a large legal bill though, so a much increased offer with no repercussions would be my preferred choice.

Most bookies are shitbags.
SkyBet suspended my account on August 15 without tellimg me - I tried to logon and got a message to contact them.
The balance on my account was £1150 and they are witholding this from me.
They say that their Security Team is "investigating" my account but nobody from their Security Team has contacted me and they refuse to give me the telephone number of the Security Team so that I can contact them.
They refuse to tell me what they are investigating and say they can't give me a deadline for when the investigation will complete.
Ther advertising slogan is "SkyBet - Betting Better" - what a joke!!

Shit bags skybet. Once won 700 quid on a slot and closed my account as claimed I had a duplicate (I didn't)

I had all offers and promotions withdrawn by Paddy Power a few years back after they gave me 3 x £10 free bets and I used a couple of them each way on 2nd favourites where the favourite was heavily odds on.

When I queried why they just said ‘traders decision’. I wouldn’t have minded but I didn’t win anything anyway

Take the 60k and run. Not worth the risk of losing in court. Betfred could afford to pay out if they lose, not sure punter could.

60k isn't a bad result is it.
Compared to a £1.7m one it’s a terrible result. The bloke said on the radio this morning it was the best part of a week before he was told they wouldn’t pay, before then he’d been asked for his bank details
Last I read, Fred Done and his brother were the richest people in the NW of England, approx £2bn iirc

I'm sure I read somewhere that betting companies don't have to pay out on any bet and you can sue them.
Apparently it's just a gentlemen's agreement and the only thing they lose is their trust amongst punters for non payment of a win.

Probably just an old wives tale.

If I were him, I'd take the £60k. However, his solicitor makes an interesting point: will Betfred be refunding customers who have been negatively impacted by software defects? I think he's playing a game of chicken with Betfred (not Frankie Detorri's Chicken where they could win a cool £million).
