Seriously what’s the point in locking down the stuff people in the relatively safe age group frequent, when i‘ve lost count of the old people I’ve seen shuffling around shops with their noses poking out of their masks and handling a shit load of goods before putting them back? That’s what’s going to catch them out, not their grandkids going out and getting pissed with their mates before chatting to them a few days later in their gardens from a safe distance.

The issue here is elderly and vulnerable people who live with those who are behaving like that. I do think there is a lack of discussion around the extent to which people should be held responsible for protecting themselves if they fall into the vulnerable category.

The government /scientists said from the outset that restrictions would yoyo to allow freedom as much as possible without the NHS being overwhelmed.

When you open up, infections go up regardless. It's that simple

They only go up when people take the piss. Why are you defending people who take the piss and wont make even small sacrifices.

Not true at all. Why is it that Germany is keeping a lid on it? Because they have the infrastructure in place to control it, e.g. test and trace.

The virus was never going to disappear, everyone knew that, but it is a lot more complex than 'everyone at home, cases low' and 'everyone out, cases rise'.

The idea was that we needed to take a drastic measure in locking down in order to prevent places such as hospitals, care homes and the wider NHS being swamped, but in the meantime get the infrastructure in place to control it once opened up, and be careful and make sure we social distance when opened up. It's not inevitable that 'the same shit happens on a 2 or 3 month recycle': we're in trouble again because we've failed to get the necessary infrastructure in place and not enough people have followed guidelines such as social distancing.
 
i know they're not government but when cummings went for a drive to test his eyesight and johnson's dad's route back from greece gave every person in the country an excuse not to follow the guidelines.
do as i say, not as i do springs to mind.
i do however think there seems to be an overwhelming attitude of wanting to blame somebody else without taking any personal responsibility. not helped by the likes of the internet loons with an agenda including those on here.
i'd love to see the water cannon used on those who turn up at trafalgar square, well i would if they hadn't been sold off.

I agree, but the point still stands. As we haven't got the infrastructure in place the cycle will be repeated until we do.. or a vaccine is found.
