Holding the public to account?

Unless there is a vaccine we wont get back to normal unless people stop acting like pricks i’m afraid

Run this past me. How will maintaining adherence to current guidelines facilitate a return to normal?
Until we get a vaccine the longer people keep spreading this shit the longer we have to carry on with masks, restrictions on movement, social distancing, the more businesses are screwed, the travel industry is screwed, The more local lockdowns we have, school closures, job losses, the more fucked the economy gets — It’s that simple.

Wrong. Its the exact opposite in fact.

So without the lockdown how many would have to die before you think it would have burnt out?
Probably the same number. I do not think the lockdown was effective. UK and France ( even stricter ) had lockdown; Sweden did not and not much difference in deaths allowing for population size.

In the example he says 'unless we have a vaccine'. So, let's presume there is no vaccine. The more people that catch the virus the more we will become immune to it. By enforcing stricter measures we are delaying the spread. All we are doing is putting it on hold. Once we get the cases down to a negligible level and we 'return to normal' guess what will happen?

Maybe I'm wrong. Perhaps if we reduce infection levels to a significantly low level the virus will disappear. Is that what you're saying @Mackem DJ?

No one of importance is gonna wake up tommorow and go “ah, you know what? We don’t need a vaccine, Lets just get every walk of life back to normal immediately because a few loons on the internet are making refferences to Bill Gates or pointing out that iTs TiMe To GeT oN wItH iT cOz ItS OnLy A fLu & nO 1 iS gEtTiNg iLl AnYmOrE”

You do know that?
Probably because the so called important people or experts as they are called have not got much of a clue.
What the hell has Bill Gates got to do with my opinion.
Who are these loons ?

You’re making an assumption we won’t have a vaccine. And an assumption that it doesn’t mutate to something less deadly.

Sometimes kicking the can down the road helps

To be honest if a vaccine is guaranteed to yield satisfactory results I'm happy with masks, social distancing etc as long as we 'go back to normal' the minute we receive the vaccine. I fear that society won't.

I'm taking issue with the assertion that working hard to drive down the infection rate will bring about a quicker return to normal. It won't!

Not rocket science - we've fucked up so it's back to the drawing board....another month indoors then gradually come out again and do it properly this time!
Thick people obviously thinking "Well I haven't caught it/died/whatever so I'm ok"

On the first point, it will take time. But people have short memories on the whole

Rather than point the finger at that eejit Boris for this ongoing mess do you feel at any point we need to hold the people responsible who are continuing to catch & spread this in their thousands?

Now we can all kid ourselves that people can unwittingly catch this in Supermakets etc but it’s glaringly obvious that the vast majority of infections are as a result of people failing to social distance (I feel genuine pity for the people who DO Catch this unwittingly btw).

It seems beyond belief that 6 month after having social distancing and hand washing rammed down our throat 4,000 a day are testing positive (PHE estimate it could be well over double that but due to them being asymptomatic and a lack of testing we dont know).

I know people suffering hardship as a result of some dickhead coming back from Zante infecting people, I know families suffering hardship and misery because of THAT event at Burnside Club. At what point do we hold the great British Public responsible?
I await the governments plans to deal with the two upcoming anti mask rallies in London, yes its a nightmare to try and stop thousands of nutjobs packing into Trafalger square in direct opposition to the current guidelines , but as long as we see so called educated privileged arseholes like piers corbyn being allowed to attend and speak at these rallies , is it any wonder the kids have decided to say fuck it why should we comply ?

You still haven't explained how a more restrictive lockdown will result in a quicker return to normal?

So the virus will disappear. Mint! In that case I'm all for a hard lockdown. How long would it take? What will happen to the virus? Will it get bored and let us know when it's safe to reappear?

Typing like that just makes you look like an absolute bellend

Perhaps we cannot legislate away the disease.
The public have had six months of restrictions. The vast majority are not at risk.
We have a ridiculous situation where young people without symptoms are clamouring for a test when in reality even if they have the virus they are not at risk.
The virus will eventually burn out. It has not turned out to be the deadly epidemic the experts predicted.
My question would be ... at what point do the great British public realise they are not at risk and that the futile attempts to control the virus are causing more harm than the virus itself.
People who post utterly stupid baseless statements like this are not helping at all, we are struggling to get control of the virus , because people are not taking it seriously.
