There was meant to be one stating near me at Hetton Country Park in March. It wasn't park run but the same sort of thing. I hope it goes ahead now as it's extra motivation.

Great Run Local. Hetton Lyons Country Park 5k | Great Run Local.

Make sure you're registered well in advance as you can't just print out a barcode & turn up like parkrun. They have to send your card out in the post.

You can't get shifted at the start of most of them. Watch and see for me.
Last week found out there is a Parkrun pod-cast, last week they had some professor on who did the report on it opening up. Its all to do with how long and how close people are together, if they are facing each other or all looking the same way, those kind of things. They are also going to ask runners to use to scan their own barcodes to stop the queues at the end. And if there is a spike it will be pulled quickly.

Cheers. I signed up before. I assume I'm good to go.

Yeah, once you've got your card you can just turn up at any of them. One thing to know though if you've done parkrun before is the finish is different. Where parkrun has timekeepers on the line & you get scanned at the end of the funnel, Great Run Local the people on the finish line are the scanners & your finish time is when you get scanned.

On my 1st one I sprinted through the finish line & got what would have been a 5k pb except it was another 10 secs before the scanner caught me up & scanned my card.

I'll give it a go as soon as it starts.

With it being the end of October I'll wear a buff & as a precaution & just pull it over my mouth & nose at the start & finish.

One of the new guidelines for parkrun during covid is the run must be set off with the speedies at the front to avoid congestion

There will markers put up at the start line with estimated finish time where runners have go too.

It's good to see people have been cracking on and getting some great miles under their belt. @Charlestonian How are you getting on?

After an ankle injury I'm looking to ease myself back into running. Essentially starting from zero - running for 30 seconds, then 60 etc. God knows what I'm going to be like after not running or even jogging for two months, but I've really missed it and looking forward to getting out again. I've been using the time to get a stronger base, looking at areas of the body that aren't firing as they should be, posture, alignment etc. and most importantly strategies so the injury doesn't come back. It's been interesting and I'm hopeful it will make me a better runner in the long-term.

I've also agreed to run a marathon next October, which is honestly terrifying!

I’d have to have a look at my strava to tell you when I last ran for certain! Motivation went fully out of the window about 8 weeks into lockdown, I’m back on the wagon food wise and my running club have started offering sessions with limited numbers again so I’ll be back at it in the next few weeks.

Very understandable with everything that has been going on, I hope you get back on it! Was always keeping me 'right' seeing your similar times to me on here.

Aye it’s on the way, I caught sight of myself the other day side on and realised it was time, perfect time to be training again now ahead of races maybe getting going again, parkrun getting going again feels positive too.

Does anyone know if the Town Moor Marathon appears on Power of 10? I've just had a check on the profiles of a couple of people who I'm pretty sure have done it but I couldn't see it listed.

Wonder if the announcement tonight about social gatherings of 6 puts that out the window now..?

Quite possibly, probably stops all races for the foreseeable.
I'm not sure, i didn't realise there was a limit of 30 at the moment..? some races have been happening with much more than 30 entrants so maybe the way they're setting them up they can still do them socially distant. It changes the climate though I suppose.

The way they've been doing it is to divide the entrants into groups of 6 by expected finish time & starting each group 5 minutes apart to minimise overtaking, fastest groups first so a smallish race of say 250 people will be broken down into 42 micro-races. They could probably get the start groups down to about 2 minutes apart for shorter stuff like 5K.
