Donald seems to have relied heavily on his mate Hill whose input appears to have been a definite negative on the construction of the team. Mates didn't help Peter Reid if you remember Adrian Heath's disastrous input.
Footballs jobs for the boys has cost us big time ... its the scourge of clubs like ours ( its only sunderland ... therefore no pressure or real expectations)
that seems to attract a parasitic culture of cronyism. Whoever takes over the cycle must be broken, as must the culture of rhe club being a cushy number

Although I agree in the way that most fans understand the concept, it’s not quite betting in the truest sense as it is an outcome over which the club has a good degree of control.

You control planning, although the outcome can't be 100% guaranteed; and you plan on the basis of affordability and risk management/minimisation. What most posters mean by "speculate to accumulate" is throw money at it. Doing that under Short got us where we are now.

Nevertheless with canny recruitment and innovative marketing it is possible. Bob Murray with very little actual input financially managed to get us comfortable in the Premier League for a good few years. Somebody with more initiative and ambition could certainly take us to the next level in the EPL

Football, the premiership and most importantly the championship has changed beyond recognition since then.

Agree 100%. I don't think the club should use that lack of sophistication as a barrier to hide behind though. The use of that narrative from the Donald era has generally been a fig leaf.

Football Division Head of Player Development

Guy Branston

Branston was Director of Recruitment and Development for us at Chesterfield during the spell we tumbled out of the Football League, he was awful and then topped it off with an awful job as caretaker manager as well.

Very, very two footed I thought. His passing with his right was crisp (hate using that on here now with the Colback connotations) and accurate. He was generally very technically sound. One little cameo where he did a drag back with his right, immediately another with his left and then played Hume in behind showcased all you needed to know in terms of his comfort on the ball.

I don’t hate Flanagan in a 3 either. Though he is prone to inexplicably kicking it out of play from a position of absolute comfort. Ideally for me we would sign Xhemajli and he would start on the left of the three. That would leave Feeney as cover for Wright and Flanagan as cover for the centre back positions on either side. That’s a decent squad balance in my opinion since we’re sticking with a three.
I don’t think Taylor has what it takes. I’ll be happy to be proven wrong if we don’t sign the Albanian though.

How easy is it for an Albanian to get a work permit to play football in England at present?
If he was a fruit picker he'd have a better chance!
Neither us or the Mags are money makers for some time. I reckon a conservative estimate is that it'll be 5 years before we make a potential operating profit for an owner spending the money necessary to get near the PL.

We won't make money in the Championship, we might break even with a frugal owner, but that will be similar to our position now in some ways.

There's a reason why people seem to walk away once they start delving deeper. It's not just us as a club, it's any 'sleeping giant' - you've got to be willing to gamble £100m+ before you see even a penny back, let alone make an overall profit on your investment.

I'm sure someone will do it though, some day, but if they do it will likely be ego driven.

I think Mike Ashley is doing very nicely out of the Mags thanks very much.

Exactly its only worth spending big on a player(speculate) If the outcome of paying for a certain player will increase the income (accumulate) by more than the cost of the player and his wages.
For example if Will Grigg had scored the goals that got us promoted then his transfer would have been worth it because we would have made more money from promoted than his transfer fee.
I have just typed this up and realised I'm replying to our in house financial genius 😄😄 but its taken me 2 hours to f***ing type it so I'm posting the reply anyway

why is there so obviously a buy out happening?

absolutely zero evidence of that at all

1 tweet from Nick Barnes and a few rumours made up by some nutters on an internet forum
Well nick Barnes is one reason, my the club hasn't denied it at any point which is another indication that it's happening. The fact sound lads who don't talk shit have also heard things from both sides of the buy out.

William storey has alluded to the buyers even though he's full of shit himself, it seems awfully coincidental that all of these things will be happening at the same time for no reason.

Do you want the club to be bought out by wealthy backers??

Who doesn't want it bought by wealthy backers

but there is absolutely zero evidence that is happening, and I have no idea why you think it is, other than you want it to happen.

Aside from all the evidence I just said that you just quoted and ignored.

He quite clearly doesn't want it to happen, it's right in front of us what's going on, multiple sources saying the same things on different sides including official sources and people who do or have worked at the club.
