These are the bits I found encouraging in the article:

While clearly still raw, he is seen as someone who could be coached into becoming a top player with high sell-on value.

The scouting of Xhemajli suggests a new approach at Sunderland, following the departures of key transfer team figures Richard Hill and Tony Coton.

Non-executive director David Jones has previously spoken about modernising Sunderland's recruitment, with modern digital data a key tool many other teams now use - most notably Brentford.

They are believed to be currently considering two men to be new head of recruitment - Craig Dean and Guy Branston - both of whom have experience in youth development and recruitment, as well as modern methods of scouting.

Whether Sunderland ultimately land Xhemajli or not, the fact they're looking at players like him suggests a change in tactic to the recruitment approach on Wearside, with many championing a new focus on signing young, untapped talent with the ability to develop.

I considered this but my source (it's actually a close family member) has moved on and now works for another football club owner in Spain, who unfortunately last time I looked are financially imploding :D

So I would guess not much chance he's still in with the original lads.
It had three initials what was it again ? Something like JCB - but I’m sure Bob the Builder isn’t the main bidder. As I remember they were all set and couldn’t agree the share ? They would know some stuff about us I guess and must clearly know the three blind mice as they nearly went into business with them.
Could someone recap this as not been on since Saturday night. Ta

We would be losing ten of millions of pounds at best in the league above. I'm not sure how that would a great deal of value on the club.

Why would we? Admittedly, this is a scenario that is highly unlikely *on the pitch* because it implies us having slashed our wage bill AND being in the Championship (i.e. if we'd gone up under Ross, but still told - as we would - the Cattermoles and Oviedos etc. to fuck off). But if that were the case then our bigger cost base in that league would be more than compensated by the massive jump in revenue. I'm not saying we'd be turning a profit, but I don't see why our position would be WORSE than League One, given the better broadcasting money.

Also, you're nearer the Premiership holy grail. Donald would feel entitled to ask for a higher price in that league on that basis alone.

Thesan Capital were the investment house, led by Jose Manuel Garrido, yes. And yes, well remembered. Essentially I was told that the initial deal was Donald to be a minority partner (25%), with someone else (now it makes sense that it was one of Methven or Sartori) holding the other 25% vs Thesan's 50.1% 'majority'.

At a very late point (late enough that I was being asked for a fan view on various issues and Jaap Stam had held informal talks to be manager) Donald demanded they split it 33.3% each, which Thesan clocked would mean that he and Sartori/Methven would be aligned against them as the true majority in any board situations where there was disagreement. They had loved him at the start, but this heel turn that meant they were going to end up being the makeweights soured them on the whole deal enough to walk away.

Easy to think they could have done it on their own, but Donald was meant to be the CEO. They probably thought the cost of starting again with another CEO was enough to just chalk it up as a loss and hope for the best.

I have asked a question about debt write-off by Short. Not sure whether it can be answered now or not, I guess it's meaningless enough now that if he ever knew, he'd probably just tell me :D

I know it’s a bit imaginative on my part but there will be some elements of DD that they have done first time around. It sounds like our Uruguayan friend was the add on.

I’m sure Jose Manuel Garrido is happy to be thought of as a JCB.

Unless a takeover happens in the next week or two, I'd rather it didn't happen for months to be honest. We could do with a solid pre-season this year. If this takeover goes through at the end of the August, with less than 2 weeks to go until the start of the new season, I wouldn't even want Phil Parkinson replaced.

Why? Transfer window goes into October. Second A new owner comes in I’d sack Parkinson

I wouldn’t. It’s our ongoing mistake. Making a new manager play with players that fit the style of the old one. It’s unsettling. IF Parkinson wasn’t doing it you make plans in advance for how to do it and put things in place to mitigate the change.

These aren’t Parkinson’s players though. Our mistake was sticking with jack Ross and then hiring Parkinson

You have to do a bit of both tbh. Some of the loans we are seeking could easily be players we've lost for next to now from our academy and for the wages of say Lafferty or McGeady we could probably have signed a player from the league below with potential like O' Nien. It needs us to have stable owners with a medium term vision with enough money to invest in it.
Our owners are far from stable hence the constant disinformation.. I wouldn't believe Donald or Methven now what ever they say..

We're part way through a window where we've signed two and we're targeting some others. We need to be less reactive if we want to grow as a club and put better long term systems in place. When we have a forward plan which i don't think we fully have yet he has to work within it and do well or we change it without changing the plan. Its what we've done for years and its cost us millions and our premier league status. It's not right.

I think our single biggest issue has been these two planning a quick escape. It's cost us our academy and the purchase of potentially profitable players and financial decisions based on quick wins.

Why should we double down on a poor appointment. The bloke failed to get us up and is only still in a job because he’s cheap.

Do we have to wait until we blow another season before we get rid? Especially if there’s a manager with a vision who the new owners would want. It’s all short term nonsense to me, the bloke deserves the sack as he’s not the man to take the club forward.

Without question, they thought promotion would assist them but they fucked that up by cheap skating on the players they and Ross recruited when it was Strength at the back, pace & power in the midfield and a couple of decent goal scorers. How the fuck we paid money for Wyke, I think Baldwin and then to go ape shit with £4m for Grigg, it baffles me. The mind boggles.
