He is such a limited cricketer in my opinion and these days even for test cricket if you want to entice the wider public you really cannot go back to the blocker style of the fifties and suxties

We have enough players who can slog it. Let him block up an end and allow his partner to find a rhythm and scores a run. Much better than the walking wickets we have had opening for what seems like years.

He might bring Burns on a bit as well.

Alistair Cook was also a very patient batsman and it didn't do him any harm.

Good, old fashioned boring day of Test Cricket that. Solid foundation, but we must kick on today. Hundreds for Sibley and Stokes, then a bit of swashbuckle from Buttler would be perfect

For years we have been asking England players to play the situation rather than always playing their "natural game". Sibley ground out the runs on a day where the ball was moving from the first over to the last. You can't ask for more than that. Maybe he will never be the swashbuckling, aggressive opener, but neither was Cook and it served him pretty well over the years

Aye but that's largely lords where he's been an absolutely gun bowler.

Hasn't played at Old Trafford since 2016 although he did get 7/105 and 1/70 in his other test in 2014

So still an incredible average of 21 :lol:
 
Doing a bit of googling on strike rates, I can’t find another batsman below 40 (Sibley is 37 before this innings)

Any help?

atherton was also 37 but that was a while ago

Tavare 30.6 SR

My dad always laments how boring he was, so assumed that would be a good shout for lower.

Doubt theres many modern players with a SR below 40
